Re: The Pentecostal Movement
If we are consigned to a world where the Holy Spirit stands at a distance and we have only the natural talents that we are born with, a world were God watches in a semi-disinterested fashion, pardon but that is just NOT the case. That position subtly shifts the responsibility of our salvation from the Grace of God to the acts of man. Our faith and trust of God is in and of itself a gift, there is nothing that we will be able to brag about. We can not so much as say, "God is good," except by the divine influence of the Holy Spirit.
"Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, "So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.' "
==> And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: "And on the seventh day God rested from all his work."
--> And again in the passage above he says, "They shall never enter my rest."
It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience.
==> Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath‑rest for the people of God;" - Hebrews 4:3-9 NIV
There remains then a Sabbath-rest for the people of God. Not by strength, not by might but by My Spirit saith the Lord of Hosts. That settles it for me. I was born in a good situation, the country was blessed by God, my family was comfortable with two working parents, my body has been healthy through out my life. This natural talents are gifts and I do appreciate them, but no working of my flesh earns me any reward unless it is joined by the Holy Spirit to the purpose and plan of God. We are admonished to cease from our own works. This means that the work that will continue must continue through the acts of God, guided by the Holy Spirit whose job is to jointly fit the members of the body of Christ together. It is by His revelation that we know that there is no need that any man teach us, because the Holy Spirit, the Comforter is our teacher. We too can enter the ministry, the service of our Master by presenting ourselves to him and worshiping God in spirit and in truth.
Jesus is THE Christ, the ANOINTED One, the promised Messiah, and it is through the Holy Spirit that was poured out without measure upon that flesh that we have been allowed to see who God is, how much He loves even us, the adopted children.
It was by the pouring out of the gift of the Holy Spirit --> by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that the God-fearing Jews and Apostles were persuaded to allow water baptism to the Goyim. Jesus had punctuated and emphasized the beginings of the Christian Church by accepting those members of "his other flock" into the family of God. The baptism and outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon those considered "dogs" shows the saving work and redemption of Christ on the cross magnified the grace of God, not only to the Jews but to Gentiles alike. Our Lord poured out His Spirit and the fruits of that act are still being seen this day upon those who do not harden their hearts and earnestly desire to enter the rest provided.
"And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days." - Acts 10:45-48 KJV
Later, the word that Peter had entered the house of a Gentile reached other men of God in Jerusalem. They asked Peter to give an accounting for what he had done (ate and broke bread with Goy): "Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them."
Peter replied ... And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house: ... And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as [he did] unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life." - Acts 11:3, 12, 15-18 KJV
