The Police Officer

Romans 13:4 NKJV tells us that the police officer is a minister of God for our good. My question is why is there a rising disconnect between the police officer and citizens? What does the word of God say about this subject?

Romans 13:10 Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Cops are doing the opposite of what Christ says. If they loved these people that are causing problems, they would go into the situation with that love, instead of fear.

What reality do you live in? A cop will if he is a good one start at the lowest amount of force possible.if I must arrest a soldier.I pull out the cuffs first and order compliance.you come across as if says no I won't go to jail.ok I won't arrest you.should the mods even punish bad members.after all one can be jailed for cyber bullying and copyright infringement.

A reality that doesn't worship the state or make excuses for it?
I didn't justify actions deemed innapriopriate.but she is a pacifist response to any law broken is not to call the cops.the cops must enforce laws.you have leeway in some methods of detention.but either way if their is enough evidence to arest they have to.I don't justify improper uses of force
are their travesty of justice of course.but we westerners have no clue about an oppressive government.try having an armed man pointing a gun at you saying pay the toll or tax to the private war lord to travel down this road.I have seen that.that is a bad government.or anarchy I'm not ignoring the encroachING of the government on basic rights.I know that is an issue.

A love does not harm reality.
So arresting by cuff which yeah pUT those on a really combative person.he won't be going to jail. tazers causes temporary harm as does oc spray.they are made to.you live in LA LA land. Anarchy isn't what God had in mind.the sword given to government if used properly is a good thing.it keeps the peace. i have been taxed and oc sprayed as all cops do.you may taze me over oc spray.once the shock is over its nothing.I can live with welts over the burning of the eyes.the welts are caused by a histamine reaction to the shocking.

To apply this Scripture just to police officers was never the intent of the apostle. "The higher powers" (KJV) start with the king or the president and could filter down to the bylaw-enforcement officer. It simply means those in goverment and civil authority, since it also includes taxation (v. 7).

The real issue is that the justice system has been corrupted in all nations, and judges are often in the pockets of criminals. "Justice" has been replaced with expediency and policing has become a farce. On one hand Big Brother wants to watch everyone, but on the other hand Big Brother throws out a welcome mat to all the mafias of the world, plus terrorist infiltrators from the Muslim world.

While the major criminals are allowed to continue their activities, the ordinary citizens are harrassed for minor infractions such as parking (which should not even be an infraction). The recent biker gang shooting in Waco, Texas indicate that these gangsters were flourishing until they killed each other. Why were they flourishing in the first place? And will they continue to flourish in prison?

Thirdly, there is a great deal of corruption in police forces worldwide, and deceptive police practices are quite common. Respect for police officers has declined partly as a result of their own attitudes and behavior. Someone now has to police the police.

Fourthly, the whole "war on drugs" is a farce. If there were no users and abusers, there would be no dealers. But to go after a kid for possessing a few grams of marijuana simply brings contempt to the whole justice system. And to maintain porous borders in the face of drug cartel activities indicates that goverments are not really serious about the big-time crime bosses. That the present administration knowingly released vicious criminals into the general population tells the ordinary citizen that goverments don't care about dealing with the real issues.

Fifthly, instead of assigning a majority of black officers (or hispanics, or what have you) to those neighborhoods which have a predominance of certain ethnic groups, white police officers keep confronting blacks etc. again and again and bringing about riots and protests. Whether or not they have good reason is beside the point. The perception is racial discrimination, and the solution is quite simple.

The main thrust of Romans 14 is that Christians should simply be law-abiding citizens. By the same token, in order to be "salt and light" Christians should speak out about the farcical justice systems that currently exist, including the prisons, the courts, and the police forces. They all need a thorough overhaul, but no one really wants to deal with these issues.

Corruption...yes.

Also, there are good and bad people in this world and cops are no better, I've seen both very good and very bad. Ego seems to be the driving force when it comes to cops treating people bad and just being jerks. The system needs to be a little more careful when hiring cops, or that's one of the best solutions I can think of. Seems to me the job takes a special kind of person, someone with patience and at least a normal ego. I assume they run psychological testing on potentials before hiring and maybe the tests were fine but they couldn't find enough to pass so they had to lower the bar? That would make since to me anyway, seems the older the world gets, they harder it is to find good people to run it.

An example of a good cop, what's his name? Dog? that hippy looking TV cop? And I know he's not a conventional cop but the way that guy treats people is the way it should be (yeah, I'll dream on :)). I'm not a big fan of the show but now that I think about it, I seem to recall them praying before a bust so, I guess they are Christians, and it shows.

I love, did you or someone you know have a recent run in with a bad cop?

Let me edit this in:

Romans 13:4 NKJV tells us that the police officer is a minister of God for our good.

God also has his hand on the laws of the land for the same reason, however, I think towards the end, Gods hand on the police officer, the laws or whatever will not be so evident as man in general becomes corrupt. Or for prophecy to be fulfilled, it at least seems to me, God will have to loose his grip on things. For Satan to get his hands on the world, I think anyway, that he will need to wait, let society go down the toilet and then promise to fix everything. So, with that in mind, I think things will generally get worse before they get better. There seems to be a lot of evidence of that already.

Jason, I'd guess it's mostly in bigger cities but not necessarily.

Either way, it isn't everywhere, but IMO, it's much more prevalent than it used to be. And I know we have more people on the planet then we used to and it could all just be relevant but, I think it goes beyond that..people are forgetting God and when that happens...well...

A police officer has to do his duty.
But there is a way to do it in love.
I will give you the only example I can.

A police officer in New York City is shot dead by a drug addict.
The police officer's partner shoots and wounds the drug addict.
Imagine the impact of losing your partner right in front on you, knowing that it could have been you instead.

He calls for assistance and holds the drug addict, stops the bleeding.
As they take him away, he puts a tract in the drug addict's pocket.
He always carried tracts and always served Jesus however he could.

Time passes and he visits the drug addict in jail.
He tells him the story and the drug addict thanks him for saving his life.
He read the tract and gave his life to Jesus.

There is a whole lot more emotion to this story than I am telling you, my police friend tells it best.
But there is a way to love others as a soldier in the world.

I know cops that do that here
remember gifford?a black deputy does community relations there.he is saved.I will post his videos from home

The verse is interesting when you consider that the government and agents of the government abused their authority in Bible times, too. Worse than is going on today.
Not that it's saying that's all right.

I think a lot of it is social class. Speaking as someone who has been targeted by the police, being poor=potential victim, big time. I was once pulled over for not turning my lights on soon enough upon pulling out of the parking area for my apt. complex. So, I get out...some cop who has a problem with me has a big dog and is screaming at me. I ended up getting a $108 ticket.

This is how poor people are treated. There are race issues, but I think the main issue is poverty and growing inequality in America. Not only are more people sliding out of the middle and working classes, there's more contempt towards the poor, probably because of economic conditions. For instance, "good people" have kids; poor people "breed." See what I'm saying?

Good story. And just the type thing that Dawg fellow might do. And I do realize, Dawg is TV but this goes to show, it really does happen.

The people that the cops pick up for doing wrong aren't necessarily that particular cops enemy but still, I think the "Love your enemies" should always apply and don't judge "this guy will never get it so lets just beat him up or yell at him" or pick and choose like that. Treat them all with love and it could have a very positive effect, at least on some people.
