Marie Holmes is a 27 year old black woman with cerebral palsy and four children. (No husband)

She was one of four people to win a 567 million dollar powerball jackpot. Her share was 127 million. She took the cash payout option... 88 million.

She has bailed out her boyfriend from jail for heroin use and dealing and he has a history of violence against everyone without respect. And not just once but four times to the tune of 21 million dollars in bail money.... Wondering what kind of legal bills his trial will cost.

But wait there's more.

Since she is a "Christian Woman" she goes to church and even has had the pastor come to her house to lead prayer services. At one of these the pastor claimed she offered 1.5 million for a retreat property. But she since has backed out causing the pastor mental anguish and stress....leaving him no other alternative but to sue her for 10 million in damages.

I don't think she's going to be a millionaire for much longer.

Money begotten fast and easy will depart as quickly

Those who have no experience having that kind of money, nor guidance, will not know how to handle it. That is the ultimate evil that is the lottery system. Most people who win that were previously poor will end up being much worse off after they win. Reason being is they were most likely on welfare prior to winning, which means they were already living beyond their means. They have no incentive to figure out how to live within their means, so they will end up blowing any winnings they may get.

This is not a hard and fast rule, but it is more than likely the case when people win a significant amount of money.

The pastor was the part that got me.

He is suing for $10 million?
Personally.

Really?

Obviously this lady, who needs support , isn't going to ever get any.
She has no clue as to what side of the bread the butter is on...never mind true love. And those supposed to be able to teach her are fleecing the flock...

I'm aghast at every turn.

That is what I got out of it too.

stupid is as stupid does..............................anyone want a chocolate!

Like they say, anyone can be poor, but you have to learn how to be rich. All of those lottery winners are prolly good at managing small amounts of money.

But drop a million dollars in their lap and they draw a blank. So may as well buy a house, car, and toys in the meantime...

I notice a lot of businessman types have an entourage of advisors most of the time. That'd be where I start if I ever won a lotto.

I think poverty is mostly a social issue. This is a messed up personal situation that I can't quite wrap my mind around.

Its a mix of social issues, legit resource limitations, and location. Specific trades are valued differently and socially people are expected to seek and adapt to pressures that are relevant to them. The problem is really that no one really knows what they are doing and the few people that have a clue are busy trying to make sure they aren't getting fleeced themselves or are doing the fleecing. Its nuts man.

ime...

I'd start by shutting down all phone, mail, and e-mail service. I'm not interested in the thousands of long-lost cousins and friends who would miraculously appear like green grass in the springtime sun.

True story. My wife's brother and his wife hit the Michigan Lotto about 15 years ago. They were swimming in debt before that. It was small by comparison. The cash out option gave them about 1.8 million. They were relatively happy before they hit it.

Within 2 years, they were divorced and owed creditors. After the divorce, he declared bankruptcy. She died of cancer about 10 years ago. Knotical your post was spot on.

Be thankful for wutcha got.

She forgot to pay her tithe. It stressed the pastor out.

There is actually some bizarre wisdom that could be learned in the movie "Brewster's Millions." It basically give someone a crash course on how to use money.
