Bible Study The Straight and narrow now looks curvy like a snake.

The straight and narrow road now has many curves like a snake crawling on the ground. Being 70 years old, I have seen the change that the younger generation was born into. So they have no idea what has changed. What once was sacred and Spiritual, even our Government entities,had respect for the Biblical principles in the life of our society USA.
There was the Blue Law that would make it mandatory for business to not open up to sell any work related products. They could sell essentials and food and usually only opened for 4 hours on Sunday. Bars were not allowed to sell whisky or 7% beer, only 3.2% beer was Allowed From Saturday 12 a.m. Till Sunday 12 a.m. Bars would stay opened till 2 a.m. through the week and 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Popular music was censored to keep it from suggestive or vulgar lyrics. The Everly Brothers song "Wake Up Little Susie" was almost banned because the lyrics said they fell asleep during a movie at a Drive in Theater,that it was suggestive that they were doing more than watching a movie.
On Friday or Saturday the pastor would invite the youths over for fellowship. His teenage daughters would play the piano and we would sing familiar hymns and witness to us. This was a sincere fellowship. You could feel the mercy and peace of God in the room and the drawing of kindred Spirits. It was a lovely time to remembrance, even now, of those days and times. There was never any doubt of God, He was just there..

Today, there is no line or narrow road visible.......It is there, but it has been obscured by the fog of religious deception, that God has allowed for those who loved not the Truth, but who have taken the Truth and replaced it with the pride of mans (so called) wisdom spelled CONFUSION or MYSTERY. Jesus revelation given to John calls it Babylon the Great Harlot. (Revelation Chapter 17)

How did we get there? By NOT "earnestly" contending for the faith. (The Epistle of Jude). We have come to think that correcting someone that is in error, or of private interpretation of the Scriptures and false doctrine has a right to free speech....not in the church! If the Apostles could see how far the Church has fallen into self willed worship., they would correct or chastise without delay, and not with a timid voice. In Matthew Chapter 13, "The Wheat and Tares" is not about false doctrine, It is about false conversion and regeneration. Contending for the Faith is about false doctrine and practices. The Scriptures are full of Christ, Paul and others chastising about false doctrine.

They are part of the Scriptures. The warnings are in OT and NT. Most people won't find them, for they read the Bible in fragmentations. A Scripture here a Scripture there, taking Scripture out of context to prove a doctrine that does not exist. The Bible is a Spiritual book and is not privy to the curious or idle.

It says that you are a Christian Sinthesis. Read and study the Scriptures in which the first church leaders are confronted with those who opposed their teachings, then if you have any questions about false doctrine or false believers, we can discuss it. I am weary of being ambushed. (hiding and waiting to attack someone)) (tricking to draw some one into a trap) (setting someone up for an attack) ( creating a position to take advantage of someone). When you run across those warnings, let me know what you think.

These are a couple but the list does go on to include salvation through works and better than half of what is taught inside the walls of Churches today. As DS said or indicated anything that is taught and is not supported with the entire context of scripture to include the New Testament is all the Bible a Christian needs.
 
Early church.I can't recall if they had the issue of works versus faith issue for salvation debates.

Let's suggest a few:
  • Homosexual marriage (1 Cor 6:9-11 ESV; Matt 19:5 ESV)
  • Promiscuous sex - fornication, adultery (1 Cor 6:9-11 ESV);
  • 'I will do what's right for me. There is no such thing as truth. There are no absolute values' (John 17:17 NLT);
  • Jesus was not bodily raised from the dead (John 20:19-29 ESV).
  • There are too many contradictions in the Bible to trust anything it says (2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV).
  • Freewill Theism (Mal 3:6 NIV);
  • Annihilationism (Rev 20:13-15 NASB);
  • Soul sleep (2 Cor 5:8 ESV).

Yes, I am a Christian. As a fellow Christian I would like to know what false doctrines and practices you see today that have you so alarmed that you began this thread.

I am not alarmed, I am grieved. The Lord said these things would happen. Do you mean to tell me you do not know of any false teachings or warnings in Scripture? If you do what are they? and if not say so.

We have amongst our membership new Christians as well as some Christians who do not have easy access to a Bible.

A full discussion of false doctrines and practices is quite welcome, and I'm pleased Douglas Summers has started the discussion.
