The Tiny House Movement

The problem is the American gestapo, er, uh... I mean customs agents. They won't let you back into the US without either a passport or an "enhanced" driver's license, which I THINK are only available to people living close to the border. There's been more than one person who accidentally missed the offramp and was forced to go through Canadian customs to turn around, then when the came to American customs they got detained and treated like terrorist suspects for many hours.
But let's say that you want to do some shopping in Canada, do you do it and then come back home ?

That is the way it was when I went there.I thought Vancouver BC was really pretty but very, very expensive.

As long as you have a passport and don't bring back anything on their constantly evolving list of prohibited items. Although few Americans go to Canada to shop anymore. The combination of their high prices, unfavorable tax structure, and unfavorable exchange rate make it much cheaper and easier to buy the same stuff here in the US. Canadians know this too. There is a Costco just south of me and on almost any day you will see as much as 5 times as many cars with Canadian lic plates as American!

Yeah, the whole area is really pretty. But the last time I was there I noticed a single scoop ice cream cone was over US$5.00 and a gallon (US gallon) of regular gasoline was around US$7.00. I buy nothing in Canada anymore. In fact, neither do many Canadians that live close to the border anymore. All of our stores around here cater almost 100% to Canadians who are fleeing the same high prices.

That sounds like us.Alot of the Washington residents from around here go to Oregon to buy major things.
