Guardiola: "This team dignifies football"

02/20/2012 01:00
The manager considers that, seeing how his players have performed throughout the season, his team doesn’t deserve to be 10 points behind in the Liga. “But we are and we have to live with it,†added Guardiola

2012-02-19_BARCELONA-VALENCIA_28.v1329696372.JPG

Zubizarreta: “We don't mind waiting for Pep to renew his contractâ€
During the halftime break, the Barça football director said the Club’s position concerning JosepGuardiola’s contract extension is very clear: “Pep knows that he has the complete confidence of the Club, the same when he first started training here. We aren’t giving him any deadlines, he has all of our confidence. If he needs time, he’ll have it. Each year he has signed a new contract and he’s always needed time to feel good about it. His way of working isn’t a problem for us. The Club is at peace [with the process].â€
"without Xavi this would be different. Not only because of what that implies on the pitch, but off the pitch as well"
"We have to try to make sure that these three remaining months in the league aren’t drawn out and we must try and compete the best we can"
After putting on a masterclass display against Valencia, Josep Guardiola praised his players. Forthe manager, it’s a “privilege†to be able to watch Barça play football. “We’re so lucky to be living in a time when these players play. This team dignifies the sport,†said Guardiola when asked about his take on his team’s performance.
“We’re far awayâ€
Focusing on Barça’s level of play, “when one sees how we’ve competed throughout the year, they think we don’t deserve it,†said the manager in reference to the 10 point gap with Real Madrid. “It’s a shame we’re so far away. I sincerely believe that our play isn’t representative of being 10 points down, but we are, and we have to live with it. The distance is what it is, let’s see if we can fulfill our job,†said the manager.
On the team’s current situation in the league, theBarça manager urged his players to keep on fighting: “We must compete well, if we don’t this[season] will be very long for us. We have to try to make sure that these three remaining monthsin the league aren’t drawn out and we must try and compete the best we can ... we have to go tothe Calderón and play a good game, let’s see if we can get any closer to [Madrid]. We’ll start preparing for the game on Wednesday, it’ll be a good test to see if we want the title.â€
“We won’t play where we aren’t wantedâ€
When asked about the possibility of playing the King’s Cup final in Mestalla and not the Santiago Bernabeu , Guardiola said, “I’d like to go where we are welcome and I’d rather not go to a place where they don’t want us to dignify a competition like the King’s Cup. In the end there aren’t any problems, we’re thankful to Valencia for receiving us. We never want to make anyone uncomfortable. If they don’t want us, we won’t go. It’s clear that we won’t play in a place where we aren’t welcome.â€
Guardiola was also asked about what his team would look like without Xavi : “without Xavi this would be different. Not only because of what that implies on the pitch, but off the pitch as well. He’s a lad that goes out to train 10 minutes before training is scheduled, he guides the players that come in, he likes to work ... he’s a one-of-a-kind player, not repeatable. His parents are a bit delayed in making a copy [of Xavi]. This year we have midfielders that are doing a great job.â€
Lastly, Guardiola confessed that he told Cesc Fabregas “you have to score a goal,†when he was substituted. “We had way too many clear chances, it’s not possible. We’re helping the opposig keepers of the Liga make a good case for contract extensions with their teams,†he said jokingly. The manager also said that he’s convinced that Messi will break César’s all-time goalscoring record. The Argentine only needs 12 more goals.

New regulations available on supporters clubs website

www.fcbarcelona.cat 02/20/2012 09:17

After being passed on January 23, the regulations have been published

NormativaCAT.v1329726203.JPG

New Supporters' Clubs Regulations

Last January 23, the Board of Directors ratified the new regulations. They are now available in the Regulations section of the supporters clubs website, or by clicking here .

Result of a year's work, a new managementmodel

As is known, the Social Area, with the Social and Supporters Clubs Commission, and the clubs themselves, through the Advisory Council, worked hard last season to fine tune certain points in the regulations used to date that needed improvement. Four commissions were set up to specialise in different areas of the movement, and their proposals were put to the last Congress.

Following those presentations, and the amendments that supporters clubs made previously, work on drafting the new regulations began last August, to eventually be validated by the Advisory Council last December. This was a major change, not just in terms of the regulations, but also because of a new management model that meant, for the first time, the supporters clubs could decide on their own future and the methods and paths they wanted to follow.

Living regulations

Through these rules, the Club and its supporters clubs have adapted to the very latest needs. Also, the aforementioned commissions will continue with their labour this season as they examine other aspects and proposals to improvethe movement and promote supporters clubs as a brand. These are the basic objectives of the Penyes Segle XXI project, a programme set up last season and designed to gradually be instigated both in this and future seasons.

This season, twelve subgroups were established within the four commissions, which are working on different issues that will complete the new regulations, such as, for example, the new organisation of the movement.

Thus, the regulations will be undergoing a constant modification process and new changes might be made each season, by proposal of the supporters clubs, the Advisory Council or the commissions, for subsequent presentation for approval at Congress and by the Board of Directors.

Messi, best goalscoring record ever in 200 games

02/20/2012 11:50
The 146 goals Messi has scored even place him above the legendary César Rodríguez as he looksset to smash records galore

Leo Messi just can't stop breaking records. His four goals on Sunday night against Valencia have taken his overall tally in the league to 146, something no other player managed to do in their first 200 games for FC Barcelona.
Better than César
Messi has beaten the record averages set by César Rodríguez, the highest Barça scorer in official matches (235) and also league matches, 193 goals in 287 outings. The legendary 'Pelucas' had scored 140 goals when he reached his 200th appearance, six less than Messi, whosescoring has included a wealth of league hat tricks, (one in the 2006/07 season, three in 2009/10, two in 2010/11 and four so far in 2011/12) plus his four-goal display last night against Valencia.
All records in sight
Messi is on course for beating not only club but also national records – for he already has some amazing stats while still being extraordinarily young. He has 146 goals in the league, and has plenty of time left to beat the Barça record held by César Rodríguez (193) and the Spanish record held by Athletic Bilbao's Telmo Zarra (251).
Just when those records will fall is hard to say, but the one for goals in official matches for Barça could be beaten very soon. César holds that one with 235 goals, but Leo already has 222. But he still has a long way to go before beating the overall record for goals scored in a Barça shirt, which was set in 1927 by the great Paulino Alcántara, with 369 goals. Messi 'only' has 241, but where the Argentinian is concerned, absolutely nothing is impossible.

Here are the match stats from the game between FC Barcelona and Valencia CF (leaving Leo Messi ’s exhibition aside, his performance deserves special attention ):
- Against Valencia, Barça scored five goals or more for the eighth time this season on their rivals. A mark the team hit against Villareal (5-0), Osasuna (8-0), Atlético Madrid (5-0), BATE Borisov (0-5), Mallorca (5-0), Levante (5-0) and L’Hospitalet (9-0)
- Guardiola picked nine players from the Masía inhis starting line-up. He also sent in three men from the cantera in the second half (Tello, Thiago and Xavi)
- With the 5-1, Emery’s bad streak against Barça continues. The manager hasn’t won any of his 10games against Barça
- In fact, in six of Emery’s visits to the Camp Nou, one with Almeria and five with Valencia, his teams have conceded 18 goals and scored only 2
- The last time an Azulgrana player scored four goals in a Liga match was on November 8th, 2008, when Samuel Eto’o fired four past Valladolid (6-0)
- Bakero was the last player to score four on Valencia. That was in February 3rd, 1985, in Atocha, when Bakero was a Real Sociedad player
- With his stoppage-time goal, Xavi broke his all-time goalscoring record in a season. He’s currently on 11 goals, surpassing the mark he setin 2008/09
- Busquets and Messi are one yellow card away from suspension
- The match his Sunday was Montoya ’s first Liga game this season, his third with the first team. It was also the first time he’s played the full 90 minutes

Iniesta: “The feeling is very similar to previous yearsâ€
WWW.FCBARCELONA.CAT 02/20/2012 12:20
The midfielder told Barça TV that the team is as enthusiastic ever, but admits that they have dropped far too many points in the league

2012-02-19_BARCELONA-VALENCIA_59.v1329737424.JPG

"Guardiola seems enthusiastic. He still a lot of nice things to experience here"
One of the stars of Barça's stunning display against Valencia, Andrés Iniesta, spoke to 'El Marcador' on Barça TV after the 5-1 win. "It is very difficult to keep up the same level in every game, but the feeling is very similar to previous years. But it's true that we have dropped far too many points".
He added that "we always try to present a good image of ourselves and transmit good sensations. The reality is that we need to get three points out of three in all our games and hope that Real Madrid slip up ... We have to keepworking the same as ever and fight for all of the titles ... It won't be easy to catch them up but the team has reacted the right way ... They are keen to things well".
Wanting Guardiola to stay
Andrés Iniesta also spoke about how much the squad would hate to lose Pep Guardiola. "I hope he renews and stays with us" he said. "He has to decide, but he knows that the team wants him to stay on. That's what everyone wants ... To me, Guardiola seems enthusiastic. He still a lot of nice things to experience here". He finished withwords for the multiple goalscorer last night. "Wehave to keep enjoying Messi, and he has to keep enjoying the team" he said.

Vettel in love with Barça
"My favourite player is Xavi because he's the brains behind the team, he's the conductor of theorchestra"
"Messi is incredible, a humble player who plays marvellously"
Sebastian Vettel , winner of the Formula One Drivers Championship in both 2010 and 2011, was there to watch Barça's stunning victory against Valencia on Sunday. Speaking to Barça TV, the German said "it was marvellous to be able to enjoy this game between such good teams in such a venue. It was fantastic".
Xavi his favourite
Vettel is a supporter of Eintracht Frankfurt, and said "I'm no expert, but compared with German football, the Spanish game is faster and much more skilful. And the atmosphere is also incredible". Asked who he admires the most in the FCB squad, the Red Bull driver was quick withan answer. "My favourite player is Xavi because he's the brains behind the team, he's the conductor of the orchestra" , he said, adding that"Lionel Messi is a great striker and scores a lot of goals, but he couldn't score so many without the ball getting to him and that's what Xavi is in charge of doing".
Praise for Messi
That doesn't mean to say that Vettel doesn't appreciate what a brilliant player Messi is. "He's incredible, a humble player who plays marvellously . It looks like the ball is stuck to his feet ... It is hard to say whether Messi is the best player ever, it's the same with Formula 1. Times change and nowadays people need different qualities. It is hard to compare him with Pele and other footballers because the contexts are so different".

"If we keep on winning we could have a chanceat the Liga"
"Guardiola has given me the chance to play hereover the years"
"Guardiola has the last word on whether or not he’ll stay. We’re very pleased with him"
Barça returned to their best form this Sunday in the game against Valencia. For Gerard Piqué , this is the “path to follow ... the team responded very well after Valencia’s initial goal and Leo Messi showed, once again, that he’s the number one. We played a great match.â€
More confidence
For the Barça defender it’s imperative for the team to keep on winning three points each week if the Club wants to have a chance of lifting their fourth consecutive Liga title. “If we continue winning we could have a chance [of winning] at the end of the season. It’s time to wait and do our work,†said Piqué. Despite the loss to Osasuna (3-2), the defender believes that games like the one against Valencia gives the team “added confidence.â€
On the Cup final: “I’m going to enjoy playing itâ€
When asked about the where the Cup final should be played, the Catalan said that he prefers to focus on the game itself and not necessarily the venue: “I’m going to enjoy playing the final. It doesn’t matter where we play. The best thing for us is having as many people come with us as possible. This is true for Barça and Athletic Club.â€
“Magnificent†relationship with Guardiola
On Barça’s line-up against Bayer 04 Leverkusen , which led some news sources to speculate abouta possible eroding relationship between the defender and Josep Guardiola , Piqué rubbished the claims by saying, “it was a technical decision. He decides and that must be respected. He has given me the chance to play over the years I’ll never question his decisions.â€
Piqué added that he and the manager have a very communicative relationship: “he’s a very communicative manager. He talks with everyone about the problems and hesitancies that he might have, including me. Our relationship is magnificent. Whenever anyone needs to share an opinion, he talks. We don’t have any problems.â€
On the hypothetical contract renewal of the Barça boss, the defender was clear: “he has the last word on whether or not he’ll stay. We’re very pleased with him. I don’t believe his doubts stem from the players. He has told us hat he’s very happy with his. But he dedicates all of his time to the Club and he probably has other things to consider.â€

"We played at a fantastic level against Valencia, one of the best games we’ve played"
“I believe that Guardiola will renew his contractâ€
“We’ll keep on pushing to reduce [Madrid’s] leaduntil the end.†This is Barça’s objective in La Liga said Xavi Hernández during La Caixa’s Obra Social ceremony (where the player was named the organization’s ambassador). The midfielder is clear that his team “won’t throw in the towel†in the national competition. “We’re convinced that we can do great things,†said Xavi, despite the fact that “it’s a very difficult [challenge] and Madrid is very strong, but in football you never know. You can’t give up on La Liga. We’ll keep going until the end.â€
The exhibition against Valencia, important
The 5-1 thrashing of Valencia has allowed the Barça team to recuperate the “excellent feelingâ€the team has enjoyed in the past, said Xavi. The vice-captain explained that “the team played at a fantastic level, one of the best games we’ve played.†He also made special mention of the team’s trajectory so far this season, “we’re having a great year†after already winning threetitles and qualifying for the King’s Cup final.
“I believe that Guardiola will renew his contractâ€
Xavi believes that Guardiola ’s stance of taking time to think about possibly renewing with FC Barcelona should be respected. “He’s very motivated and he plans out the games like he always does. He’s still a winner, a leader in the dressing room. I think he’s doing great but it’s hiscall and we’ll have to wait for his decision.†However, when pressed on the issue, Xavi said that “I think he’ll end up renewing [his contract].â€
The midfielder added that his manager has “given us a spectacular level of self-confidence. The boss is a key part of this machinery.†He finished by saying that “we would all like him to renew and for him to stay. We feel good about this manager. He’s a fundamental piece for Barça but we’ll have to wait for his decision.â€
Xavi feels recuperated from his injury
After missing out on the Champions League match against Bayer 04 Leverkusen due to injury, Xavi was able to play the final minutes of the game against Valencia. “I feel a lot better and I have a good feeling about it. I’m practicallyrecuperated and I hopeo be 100% ready this Sunday,†when Barça will take on Atlético Madrid at the Calderón. The midfielder also pointed out that it’s a good thing for the team to have a lighter game schedule: “it’ll be good for us to regain strength.â€

Edson Arantes de Nascimento ‘Pelé’ talked about Guardiola ’s Barça in an interview with FIFA . The Brazilian places the Catalan side amongst the best teams in the history of the sport: “I’ve been watching this Barça side a lot lately and they’re like Santos were in my heyday , or the great Benfica, Ajax, AC Milan and Real Madrid sides. They all set the standard in their day.â€
O Rei Pelé is clear: “the key to their success was the fact they had settled line-ups over a long period of time. Don’t forget that Barça is the coreof the Spanish team. There’s a connection there, just as there was between Ajax and the Dutch national team all those years ago and between Santos and Brazil.â€
Let the ball roll
Just in case there were any doubts about Pelé’s preferred style of play, the Brazil legend said: “this is the football people want to see and I really hope it’s the blueprint for the future. I really hope skill wins out over strength. Look at Germany. They play a much more technical gametoday, and that’s the football we want to see. We want to see the ball moving, not the players, and you only get that with teams that are really well organised. That’s they way Barça ply todayan that’s the way my Santos played. I was very lucky.â€

Spanish League Round Up Week 23

02/21/2012 09:10
Espanyol and Bilbao moved a step closer to the Champions League next season, whilst Levant suffered another defeat in a round of games that saw Sporting take a point at the bottom, where Zaragoza dropped another three points

ruben_castro.v1323688222.jpg

Molina, Castro and Isidoro (Betis)-
With Barça and Madrid battling it out for the top two places and Valencia seven points clear of the fourth placed team, the fight for the last Champions League spot and the other European places is really tight at the moment, with just two points separating fourth place Bilbao from 10th placed Osasuna.
Espanyol and Bilbao overtake Levante
Espanyol's point away to Getafe on Saturday was enough to see them overhaul Levante, who lost 3-5 at home to Rayo on Sunday, but Athletic Bilbao have a slighter better goal average – though not on head to heads – and stole ahead of Pochettino's men with a 3-0 win over Malaga. Espanyol keeper Kiko Casilla put in a great performance to save a point for Espanyol after a Miku penalty had cancelled out Alvaro's fourth goal of the season. The Catalans also lost Galan to his second yellow late on and Pochettino admitted: "it was a fair result".
Bilbao made sure of the three points at San Mames with three goals in four minutes to beat Malaga, whose boss Manuel Pellegrini reckoned his team had done enough for a draw and claimed: "there are still a lot of points to play for and this team has got the skill and intensity that is required". Malaga are now down to eighth, on 31 points, two behind Espanyol and Bilbao.
Atletico concede a goal and drop two points
Atletico Madrid also failed to take full advantage, conceding their first league goal of the year and dropping two points in Gijon in their 1-1 draw with Clemente's Sporting, whose keeper Juan Pablo put in a brilliant performance, and are now in sixth on 32 points. Simeone also lost Diego Ribas to a muscle injury that will probably rule him out of next weekend's game against Barça.
Levante drop to sixth, level on points with Atletico, after an extraordinary game at the Ciudad de Valencia against Rayo. The Madrid team went in one up at half time, Levante equalized soon after the break and then the visitors put four more past their hosts, for whom Ruben Suarez grabbed two late goals to finish it off at 3-5.
Rayo enter the fray
Rayo's win takes them into European contention,as they are now up into eighth, level on points with Malaga and Osasuna, who were unable to follow up last week's heroics against Barça in Seville, where Michel got his first points with a comfortable 2-0 win that lifts Seville up to 11th, now just two points behind the Pamplona team. Seville's neighbours Betis are level with them after they put another nail into Zaragoza's coffinwith a 0-2 win at La Romereda on Monday night.
That leaves Manolo Jimenez's team 11 points offsafety and was big disappointment following last weekend's win against Espanyol. With Sporting taking a point, Racing and Villarreal could ill afford their heavy 4-0 defeats at the hands of Real Madrid and Mallorca, as indeed could Real Sociedad, who lost heavily(4-1) in Granada. Real are now in 16th on 27 points, one ahead of Villarreal, with Racing third from bottom on 23 and Sporting a further 3 points adrift.

In its February issue, BARÇA MAGAZINE speaks tothe German photographer about the context the picture was taken in and which was the winner last December of the Photograph of the Year award presented by GEO magazine in conjunction with the German Unicef committee.
Löffelbein is thirty years old and last September travelled to Ghana to make a photo-report abouttoxic electronic waste being sent to Africa. Whilehe was at the Agbogbloshie dump in Accra, he spotted a young boy wearing a Barça shirt.
"I was surprised when I saw what he was wearing", says Löffelbein. "I tried to speak to him, but it was impossible ... But I was also impressed by the vitality and energy of the young people working at the dump." The photographer reckoned there were about 800 people collecting rubbish, most of which were children.
Löffelbein's picture, which is now sure to appear at a number of different photography festivals, is all about the export of electronic waste to Africa, which is a threat to people's health and is causing serious damage to the environment. According to United Nations estimates, 6,500 tonnes of this waste is sent each month to Ghana, most of which ends up at the dump shown in this picture.

He has started the last eight games, since the cup return leg against Real Madrid (2-2) through to the 5-1 win over Valencia. Only Messi, with eight starts, has a longer record.
Versatility and guarantee
There is nothing unusual about Puyol starting games, but he rarely plays as many as eight without some kind of rest in between, as is the case with most players. But the fact that he can also play at left back means he is useful cover for Alves when he's out, which has led him to start 16 of the last 18 games. These have resulted in 11 wins, 5 draws and just one defeat, the one that marked the end of a run of 56 matches unbeaten with Puyol in the side.
Three and a half years ago
Puyol hasn't played so many consecutive games since the run between the end of 2007/08 and the start of 2008/09. He played the last six games under Rijkaard (Deportivo, Manchester United, Valencia, Real Madrid, Mallorca and Murcia) and the first six of the Guardiola era (Wisla, Wisla, Numancia, Racing, Sporting Gijón and Sporting Lisbon). In total, 12 games in a row.Can he equal that number this time?

First seven day rest of the season

02/21/2012 11:33
This is the first time that the squad has been together for seven consecutive days without playing commitments. Traditionally, that’s a signof a good result next weekend

This is the first time that Barcelona have had a full week in which to train for a match. Such a packed fixture list has involved 43 official matches so far, meaning there has not been one instance of the players having a full week to prepare for a league game. Of the last ten times that this had happened, eight of the following games have been won, and two ended in draws.
5 wins and a draw last season
The team had six weeks off last season. And the results straight after were almost always positive. There was a huge win at Almeria (8-0) and another at Espanyol, as well as wins against Mallorca (3-0), Getafe (2-1) and Malaga (3-1), the last league game before going to Wembley. The only time they slipped up was drawing away to Sporting (1-1).
Atlético Madrid last loss
The two years before have also shown that a little rest works wonders for Barça. In 2009/10 they made no mistake against Valladolid (4-0), Valencia (3-0) or Racing (4-0), and drew with Almeria (2-2). They haven't lost a game with seven days to prepare since February 14, 2010. That was against Atlético Madrid, the only defeat in the 99-point season, and coincidentallythe next team Barcelona plays this time round.

Free for members
Entrance to the Camp Nou Experience, which includes the Stadium Tour, the Museum and the multimedia space, is free for FC Barcelona members. The general public pay 22 euros, while the cost is just 16.50 euros for members of supporters clubs, students, OAPs, numerous families and children (6-13 years). Children under 5 get in for free.
2011 was the best year ever for the FC BarcelonaMuseum. The figures were astounding, with a massive increase of 24% in the number of visitors and of 59% in turnover with respect to 2010.
A total of 1,626,990 people visited the Camp NouExperience last year, the combined name for the Stadium Tour, the Museum and the multimedia space. That's the highest figure in the 27 years ofthe Museum's history, and which beats the previous record of 1,397,574 visitors in 2007.
That means that Barça Museum is the third most visited in all of Spain, only behind The Prado (2,911,767) and the Reina Sofía (2,705,529). In Catalonia, it is still ahead of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona and Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres.
Busiest month July
As usual, it was in summer that the visitors were most intense. The highest attendance in 2010 was July with 271,992 visitors. On just one day, July 14, there were an amazing 13,659 visitors, the most visitors the Museum has ever had on a single day.
This figures reflect the growth detected at the Museu President Núñez last year, when visits rose by 20%. 2010 was the year that the facilities were modernised and transformed with the establishment of the Camp Nou Experience, a new route around the stadium thatallows visitors to discover, experience and thrill with Barça, its players and its historic achievements.
The improvements to the Museum have continued in 2011. There is a special display of the 16 titles won in the 2010/11 season by the football teams and the other professional sports teams. More space has also been dedicated to the Foundation on the first floor. An audiovisual display is the main attraction here, which explores the values promoted by the Foundationthrough its alliances, programmes and campaigns in Catalonia and around the world.
The new items for 2011 also include a section dedicated to the Barça players that have won the Ballon d'Or, with special attention given to Leo Messi. Much of the audiovisual and multimedia content has also been updated, withspecially dedicated videos to the achievements of the Guardiola era.

Piqué: “This team can still keep going for many more yearsâ€

“Sometimes in football things happen so fast that it seems like we have no memory and forget about the things we have doneâ€
“I don’t think Guardiola’s renewal depends on the players. He is proud of us and we have already spoken in public about what we wantâ€

Confidence in the team
Gerard Piqué is confident that the end of the brilliant cycle is not upon us. "It's been going on for three and a half years now and things are still going very well. We mustn't forget that we've already won three titles this season, that makes 13 out of 16. Astounding. Sometimes in football things happen so fast that it seems like we have no memory and forget about the things we have done. OK, we're not in the league position we would have hoped to have been in at the start of the season, but we're still very alive in three competitions. I am convinced that this team can carry on doing as well for several more seasons".
Speaking to Barça TV, Gerard Piqué has revealed much about current goings on at FC Barcelona. After thrashing Valencia in Sunday's league match, the centre back spoke about Barça's situation in that competition. "I think the difference in the league is excessive. We're playing great football. There have been a lot of points we have dropped in the last few minutes". Piqué thinks they now have to deal with things in the short term. "We shouldn't think about the distance right now. We have to go game by game. Try to enjoy ourselves, try to win and let's see if in a couple of months we are better positioned to close in on the leaders and make the league a bit more exciting".
He added that "we try to treat all games the same and it is going well for us in the ChampionsLeague. But we're finding it harder in the league.I think we've played well away from home, but the opposition also plays, they tend to keep things tight at the back and it's always hard to break down these defences, especially if they score first. There have been some great games, like the one at the Bernabéu, and others like the one in Pamplona, where things didn't work out so well. You start dropping points and end up in a situation that's not too good".
No problem with Guardiola
A lot has been said of late about the relationshipbetween Piqué and Guardiola, but the centre back insists "there aren't any problems; we've been working together for years. I know what he wants from me and I don't think there are any problems in that sense. We have always spoken to each other face to face whenever there's been anything to be said and if there is anything wrong, then he wouldn't have any problem with coming up to me and saying it ... Atthe end of the day, if you listened to everything people say, you'd go crazy. You just have to concentrate on what you have to do and try to ignore what people are saying".
Manager's renewal
"I don't think it depends on us. The manager has always said he is proud of our performances and how we behave on the pitch. I think his biggest doubts are related to his family and his personal life. He has to dedicate 24 hours a day to football, and that's too much sometimes. We are doing all we can for him to renew. All the players have stated what we want and we are doing all we can on the pitch to show how much we would like him to stay with us. But it's his decision, and we have to respect it".

Crest inauguration of the PB Lausanne

Three supporters clubs were at the Camp Nou onSunday to unveil their club crests before the game with Valencia. One was Catalan, another was Galician and the other was Swiss, for all of which February 19, 2012 will be a historic date to remember.
The first was Switzerland's Peña Barcelonista deLausanne whose crest is now above entrance 30 to the stadium. Twenty members of the Swiss club came to Barcelona, led by their president Ramon Andrade . Elvira Pou , director of the Supporters Clubs Commission joined Andrade in doing the honours, and the members are now safe in the knowledge that their name will always be there next to that of the team they love.

Sandro Rosell and Bill Gates held a private meeting, on Tuesday, in Madrid, just before a dinner where Bill Gates invited various membersof society, in the context of a visit to transmit to the heads of State public institutions the importance of maintaining aid for cooperation, even in times of crisis.
In this regard, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and UNICEF Spain have made public a survey where poverty and inequality between rich and poor countries are considered by the public to be the most important worldwide problems.
Sharing synergies
Rosell , who also attended the dinner hosted by Gates on Tuesday in Madrid, was able to strengthen ties with the philanthropist, and comment on progress in eradicating polio in the world, a struggle in which the Club is particularly involved, as a result of the agreement signed between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the FC Barcelona Foundation in July 2011.
There is very good news in relation to the total elimination of this disease. In fact, last January 13th it was one year since the detection of the last case of polio in India . Twelve months without the disease, which, although not assuming total eradication, is a very good sign interms of achieving that goal.
'More than a Goal. End Polio'
Under the slogan 'More than a Goal. End Polio' , FC Barcelona has been helping the Bill & MelindaGates Foundation , with its media power and global recognition, to facilitate the developmentof programs and news related to this disease. In fact, on 24th of October, World Polio Day, the two foundations produced a video to raise awareness of the disease, involving, in addition to Rosell and Gates, the first team manager, Pep Guardiola
