[_ Old Earth _] We now KNOW what happened to the Dinosuars!

Barb:

"…Eretz" means "land", not the whole world…â€

Then what’s left? Water?

Barb:

â€â€¦No chickens back then. Hadn't evolved until well after neolithic times…â€

You’re kidding, right?

Barbarian observes:

Depends what the writer meant by "land." It's usually meant "eretz Israel" (the land of Israel) in the Bible, but it could mean, "right about here", "the country", "all the land I know about", etc.

Barbarian observes:

Nope. Like dogs, we know how chickens evolved, because we domesticated them.

if we evolved them then that aint evolution, its called unatural selection.

if that the case then all black slaves have been "elvoved " as well.

we bred slaves to be bigger and stronger and so on.

using that reasoning for world and who the Lord adressed one could say that only those in europe and africa should be saved after its the words the uttermost ends of the earth. did that mean the known world or the whole world?

see where this can go.
we can be relativity sure that the audience only thought of what was charted land when Jesus said that, but the lord knows his creation and told them the word to write so that the future disciples of him would know what the commision was and would have means to see and go places where those in past neither knew about or could go.

The top of Everest was covered for a year? The fountains might have spit some shells up to the top of everest I suppose if they were really churning things up. It still seems like a long shot when a perfectly reasonable explanation is available. I know, reasonable to me is not reasonable to you. ;) Best.

Well, and isn't that how things work? Some think W. was a horrible president, others loved him. We see things in different lights. I see the accounts of scripture and bring that along the evidence and that makes it clear to me that the flood brought those shells there. You see the theories and their supporting evidences and see how plate shifting made that mountain rise up from the sea. I guess that's where the split will stay.

Maybe you can help me with a question I've had for quite some time now. Why do Christians make such an effort to come up with marginal theories that attempt to square biblical events with science? If the Christian God is truly omnipotent then he can do anything. Examples; How did Noah get all those creatures on that boat? God did it. How did Jesus walk on water? God did it. You get my point. Why so much effort to make these things scientifically plausible? If you succeed doesn't it lessen the need for an omnipotent god? Best.

we dont, sometimes it comes across that way, but primarily by faith we believe that he did it.

can a scientist really honestly test god and say that he dont exist?

what of the cross one cant ever say that a mere man has survived the cruficixation? yet we believe that christ arose.

I think the biggest thing that convinces me that there was a global flood as the Bible seems to suggest is that there are seashells that have been found on the top of Mount Everest!

In fact, Mt. Everest is made of fossilized sea shells. It is displaced continental shelf. The process that raised it up continues. India continues to move a few centimeters a year into Asia, and the mountains continue to grow. When the two continents collided, their shallow continental shelves crumpled up like the hoods of two cars in a head-on collision. Not being dense enough to be subducted, they just piled up into mountains.

all this sounds like proof of a flood, yes, World wide, yes, covered all the mountains, yes. as seen in many many instances around the world..

Nope, no more than the global occurrence of flood basalts is evidence of a single world-wide volcanic cataclysm. Marine fossils in mountain formations are unequivocal evidence of the effects of plate tectonics and the forces involved in orogeny.

And the movement that caused the Himalayas is still continuing, and we can measure the rate that the continents are coming together, and the mountains rising.

Completely incompatible with a world flood.
