What Am I?

farouk Good guess, but nope! Chewing for man was the original purpose.

You got me with this one. I was thinking some type of insect or bird as some (insects) have four wings but you say more or less so that lets them out. Unless I don't know enough about entomology. Now I'm thinking machinery but chews for man? Grain mills don't have wings. Unless I don't know enough about machinery! Which is sad because I'm pretty mechanical. Sounds like something a farmer could answer. Some kind of specialized farm equipment. But when I've been to the John Deere place, I don't even know what most of those machines do!

Wings. More or less. :chin

Edward You are so on the right track that I'll count close enough for horseshoes! The answer is a windmill! Nowadays, we tend to associate windmills with pumping water and generating power, but back in the day they were used to power the gristmills for grinding wheat and corn.

Really?! Awesome. The great deductive powers of a serviceman! (pats self on back) LOL. I just didn't know that windmills drove gristmills. I'm gettin' old but not that old yet, lol. You're good at these riddles handy. Taught me a new word today too....'normative'. (the other thread I think). Kudos for that. I could tell how you used it to what it meant, just never heard of it. I must've skipped school that day. (hangs head).

Thirty White Horses on a red hill
First they Champ
Then they Stamp
Then they stand still.

Gotcha' with this one. :wave

Teeth my dear! (And thanks for the kind words!)

OK... here is one from the Bible:

My center is nothing;
My first is my last;
And when the long ages
Are over and past,
Then vengeance divine
Shall devour me and mine

Geez, there's getting anything past you! Teeth is correct. But you know that, for you were so confident that you posted another question. (For bonus points, what movie was that from?)

The answer to your riddle is the devil. I *think*.

I believe the Hobbit mentioned the 30 white horses riddle... but it's not "from" the movie. It was in my huge "Mother Goose" book when I was a kid and even that book was quite a few years old. I think that horse goes way back... probably even as far back as the windmill one!

And no... not the devil. But definitely playing on his team.

Gollum reads Mother Goose?! LOL! I never would've guessed. Still working on your riddle. I know I should read more...

its hades, or sheol.

Sorry Jason... I think your answer was sort of "hidden" by the last glitch in the system (before Jeff fixed things!)...

Nope, not hades.

He could be said to have come from the land of "Me and My Ma" :lol
