What Are God's Attributes?

We could start by saying that man was made in the image of God.
Does this mean we look like God physically?
Most probably not, although we could not know for sure.
Genesis 1:26-27

So, apparently, God has attributes that He passed on to us.

I'll state the most obvious...Love.

A God that John claims not only HAS love but IS love, , , has passed this love quality on to us.
1 John 4:8

We all desire to love and be loved.
Life feels void without this quality.

God has force, and logic which are the only finite attributes I can think of that he could give man. So I do correct myself.
Agreed on logic.
What do you mean by force?

It is all under logic.
How so? Logic is our ability to use reasoning. What does that have to do with any of the attributes I gave? Is the ability to do good and know good from
evil just a case of logic? Is love really just a matter of logic? Aesthetics?

John says the God is spirit. Does that just mean God is logic?

Logic can determine what is moral. The way force is used determines if our actions are good. Spirit is the force of the being or individual.

Logic is a system of reasoning.

Logic is simply this as I type a series of mathematics triggered as I type created by a preprogrammed if then statements and manipulation of electricity that uses circuits to create on or off .

You have gates that are triggered .

And ,nor ,or etc .

That can't define morality .it's useful for thought but we are more then reason as that must have a presupposition to start from God exists outside of that .He needs no reason to be .He simply is who He is and is the ultimate loser and being from whence all things move .

If He were to say the universe cease to exist .it simply would .

It would seem that God has emotions like love, anger, jealousy and we see this on the polluted human scale within ourselves, but we also can see this in animals so could it be that His attributes are reflected in all his living creation? At least the more complex ones?

Love, truth, justice, Holy, Patience

The Holy Spirit
The Spirit of truth
Justice is a scepter of His kingdom
God is Love
God is patient (long-suffering) (slow to anger)

And Of course God is eternal and Divine.

This is a great thread. God created our bodies and it says he sees, hears, smells, has hands, ect. so we know in ways we're like him.
But I think you're right wondering that God put heavenly senses like his love and compassion in the hearts of everyone born into this world. Paul said people who forgot to honor God became dark in their thinking. They became without "natural affection." Children have affection naturally. Jesus said become like them. 😊

While God's force is not finite, he gives it to the created universe. There is an image of God which is not always God himself in man.
I understand.
I believe you're talking about the "life force" that makes everything have life, to grow and to multiply.
Agreed.

Some are but the big difference is that man has a conscience.
Animals do not.
It may seem that they do but really they respond to some type of stimulii, like affection or rage,
but it's purely by instinct. They cannot possibly understand love like man can, although they certainly do love their owners and even feel sadness.

But you brought up a good point...
With God everything is PURE,
In man every emotion is polluted.
This is due to the effect of the sin nature.

Right. God gave us other attributes He has too.
What about FAMILY?
God has a "family".
Father, Son, Holy Spirit

Plus, He decided to make us and to allow us to become part of His family.
A family has the same goals, they share their responsibilities, their affectionate toward each other,
they keep each other informed of what's going on with each member.

This is what the Trinity does.

And man has the desire to create more persons like himself,
to make a family for himself and to dedicate his life to that family.

God put these needs in us for a reason.

Logic can determine what is moral. The way force is used determines if our actions are good. Spirit is the force of the being or individual.
Logic can determine what is moral ONLY when we're taught God's laws and are living in those laws.
It's the same with the conscience.
We can only trust our conscience when it's formed by teachings of Jesus and when we desire to live by them.

Some persons have no logic.
Some person have no conscience.
Or at least, the logic is faulty or the conscience is faulty.

Right. God gave us other attributes He has too.

I know you're right. I grew up seeing Godly attributes even in people who were avowed atheists. Traits such as mercy and hope for good things.

It doesn't bother me that a person who doesn't believe in God is thankless toward him for the feelings God gave him.
