For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (II Tim. 2:7 KJV)
The "sound mind" bit might be doubtful after you look at it, but you need not fear.

Because they are tasty.I don't for life of me understand why we American love crabs and lobsters. they aren't called bottom feeders for nothing.
Why is it that the most disgusting foods (and some of them seemingly MADE as disgusting as possible on purpose) seem to come from Asia? What's wrong with people over there????Anybody here tried balut? It's common in south east Asia. I found it on a list of the 8 most disgusting things people actually eat. It's on the top of the list. You might not want to check out that site before eating (unless you're on a diet), and I wouldn't recommend it immediately after eating either.

I love both, but I refuse to cook either one while it's still alive, and I refuse to serve it to myself or others in a state where it's still looking at me! To me, that's just WRONG!I don't for life of me understand why we American love crabs and lobsters. they aren't called bottom feeders for nothing.

Actually, at least in the US, these things are pretty clean. I live by a commercial oyster farm and get to see what they go through. The water has to be VERY clean and free of pollution for the oysters to be allowed to be harvested and sold. There aren't many places left in the US suitable for oyster (and other shellfish) farming that can pass those tests. The water and the oysters themselves are constantly tested and quite often shut down from harvesting until some temporary pollutant is gone and has worked it's way out of the oysters. Sometimes all it takes is a little rain after a dry spell that creates polluted runoff from cow pastures to shut them down. So if you buy oysters in the store or from any kind of commercial outlet (restaurant, etc) in the US it's a pretty safe bet they didn't come from some polluted backwater swamp.yes but well remember with clams and oysters, while tasty that once polluted river or lagoon. those are what cleaned it up. and you ate whatever he had cleaned out that did pass muster. a pearl is what didn't.
You've sure got that right. When I worked in Los Angeles there was a study done that showed just breathing the polluted air had the same negative effects on your body as smoking a pack of cigarettes every day!
We've had worse. We breathe the air in our atmosphere. Talk about polluted...
We've had worse. We breathe the air in our atmosphere. Talk about polluted. My neighbor was telling me one time about how they used a cistern for their drinking water in their house for many years before they put in a new well. Afterwards when he opened up the cistern what he found turned his stomach. We soak fish in a poisonous lye and then eat it as a special treat....well some do actually like lutefisk. We take cabbage and allow it to ferment into sauerkraut. We cook grains and corn and then let it ferment, filter off the liquid, and drink it often times to excess or use it to fuel our automobiles.

You just described the Los Angles smog when I was growing up and working there. Actually it's more in the area east of Los Angeles where the prevailing ocean breeze drives the pollution from Los Angeles along a mountain range in the area known as the San Gabriel Valley. I lived 20 miles (line of sight, just checked!) from those mountains and it was a rare day indeed that you could see them at all. The summer was the worst and I knew people who moved there from out of the state and didn't even know the mountains could be seen from their homes for months and months after moving in. One time I did an experiment of wearing a gas mask all day and couldn't believe the difference. By the late afternoon when I normally was worn out and only wanted to lay down, I was still full of energy from filtering my air through that gas mask all day. (Yeah, I was working where almost no one saw me, so I didn't risk people thinking I was nuts...)I've been to some pretty polluted places, including London, New York, Chicago, Las Vegas and Washington DC, but only once has the pollution actually bothered me, and that wasn't any of those places I mentioned, but right here in Reykjavik, Iceland, which they say has the cleanest air of any capital city in the world. For about 3 days last week, there was a calm easterly breeze coming directly from the eruption at Holuhraun. There was so much SO2 in the air, that it caused a visible blueish mist so thick that mountains only 35 km / 22 mi. away, which are usually clearly visible, completely disappeared from sight, and another mountain only half that distance away was just faintly visible. That's the only time the pollution has been so bad that my throat hurt.
