Was finally able to find the DC Talk version.

questdriven:

So how would you rate the Newsboys, in comparison with Red?

Blessings.

Well, overall I don't like them as much as Red, but they're growing on me a little.

questdriven:

Well, I can understand how Red 'does' something for the listener. At least some of their lyrics seem to have Christian references, and much of it is thoroughgoing, good quality hard rock.

Blessings.

The sound of silence (not the Simon and Garfunkel variety...)

A wonderful, enchanting song from Iceland.

Amazingly, they can do it live just as well as in the studio.

To Know You, by Casting Crowns

To know you is never worry for my life, and
To know you is to never to give in or compromise
To know you is to want to tell the world about you
Cause I can't live without you

To know you is to hear your voice when you are calling
To know you is to catch my brother when he is falling
To know you is to feel the pain of the broken hearted
Cause they can't live with out you.

More than my next breath
More than life or death
All reaching for, I live my life to know you more
I leave it all behind, you are all that satisfies
To know you is to want to know you more
To know you is to want to know you more

To know you is to ache for more than ordinary
To know you is to look beyond the temporary
To know you is believing that you will be enough
Cause there is no life without you

More than my next breath
More than life or death
All reaching for, I live my life to know you more
I leave it all behind, you are all that satisfies
To know you is to want to know you more
To know you is to want to know you more

All this life could offer me, could not compare to you
Compare to you
And I count it all as lost, compared to knowing you
Knowing you

More than my next breath
More than life or death
All reaching for, I live my life to know you more
I leave it all behind, you are all that satisfies
To know you is to want to know you more
To know you is to want to know you more

Compared to you
Compared to you
And I count it all as lost, compared to knowing you
Knowing you
And I count it all as lost, compared to knowing you
Knowing you

I'm listening to an interview Rachael Held Evans by Justin Lee - brilliant stuff :D

Great words.

I think that Casting Crowns is kind of soft rock / easy listening, right? rather than Christian hard rock.

Blessings, f

CCR's music is excellent ........... their song "Out My Back Door" was written shortly after they returned from the Kickapoo Rock Festival in Illinois

Okay ..... that was your music trivia for the day

Soft rock. They were one of the first bands I checked out.

questdriven:

Right, yes, soft rock. :)

What, you mean, when you first started to wonder if there was something special about Christian rock for you after all?

Blessings.

I think some of my friends were talking about one of their songs (it was Slow Fade) and I decided to listen. I realized the lyrics were very God-honoring.

questriven:

Yes, they are, aren't they. Kind of a moral warning.

I realize that now as an adult woman you're well into Christian hard rock, and not only the soft.

But like you say, it's the lyrics that are the essential part, right.

Blessings.

Yeah, the lyrics are the most important.

My pastor would say several things about the lyrics to modern songs. He'd say things like they'd say "You" instead of "God", they sound like they're talking to their latest boyfriend instead of God, they don't like to sing about Jesus' blood, they were "watered down", etc. I had had exposure to some of these songs, and I knew he wasn't fully correct (some of it was partially true), but I partially believed him for a long time, anyway.
When I found Casting Crowns, none of that was true about them. (Like I said, some of it is true about some songs, but some of those I've come to believe are not necessarily a bad thing. Does it really matter if you say "You" instead of "God", as long as you know who you're talking about? And that they never say anything about Jesus' blood is simply not true. He obviously hasn't listened to very many CCM songs.
Not all bands are as straightforward as Casting Crowns, and that's fine. There is plenty to choose from in the realm of Christian music, anyway.

Anyway, another one of the early songs by Casting Crowns I listened to was Voice of Truth.
And I'm listening to it right now. :)

questdriven:

Yes, a lot of reputations are fed by rumors rather than facts.

You decided to find out for yourself, though.

I guess there is also the distinction that some Christians songs aren't necessarily written to be sung in church services anyway. Though if they are, it's good.

Anyway, I'm sure you don't regret the fact that you found out for yourself. Or that this led you (at least partly, I guess) into Christian hard rock, either.

Blessings.
