What are you listening right now?

questdriven:

Yes, a lot of reputations are fed by rumors rather than facts.

You decided to find out for yourself, though.

I guess there is also the distinction that some Christians songs aren't necessarily written to be sung in church services anyway. Though if they are, it's good.

Anyway, I'm sure you don't regret the fact that you found out for yourself. Or that this led you (at least partly, I guess) into Christian hard rock, either.

Blessings.

Yeah. Those that were meant to be worship songs are usually pretty obvious.

I also like how Casting Crowns points out in some of their songs that the church isn't really doing it's part the way it should. In songs like this:

This has got me listening to a lot of the songs I used to listen to all the time.

Yes I agree that Christians, in testimony, need to show themselves sympathetic to people who are hurting.

There is also the aspect of communicating truth and doctrine with Biblical substance, of course.

I certainly don't agree with the spreading of misleading information about CCM and Christian rock bands, though.

Blessings.

Well, yes. And I think that concentrating so much on how bad they think CCM is just as bad as concentrating so much on things like needlessly upgrading the church building--it's not the purpose of the church to have a beautiful impressive building just for the sake of having a beautiful impressive building, and it's not the purpose of the church to warn people of the supposed dangers of CCM. If they feel it's wrong, that's fine, but if that kind of thing is all they ever preach on, how are they ministering to others?

Good line: 'would the love of Jesus be enough to make you stay?' :)

Sounds like you were a bit more into Christian soft rock than you are now, maybe.

Blessings.

I hadn't discovered Skillet yet. ;)

I do love that song, though. I think everyone can relate to that one. I know it's applied to me a few times.

Yes, Scripture says, 'Man looketh upon the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh upon the heart.'

So it was Skillet that really brought you to the Christian hard rock scene that you now sort of inhabit more.

Blessings.

questdriven:

Hope it went better today for you, anyway.

And it's nice that you still obviously respect the views of critics of CCM, but of course recognize that there does need to be Biblical substance for people to feed on, and not just a diet of negative criticism.

Blessings.

Yeah.
I think it was Skillet's "Monster" I first heard--it's one of their most popular. I think someone animated a video to the song and that's what I first saw.

Yeah.
A few months back someone came to the Bible study I attend and said he had been into satanism, and that was the first place where people didn't make him feel unwelcome. I don't know for sure, but I think after the message that night I saw him at the altar and overheard one of the adults talking to him about salvation. I hope that was him.
But that should be the focus of the church--helping believers to grow in faith, and leading the lost to God.

It's interesting, in the light of the fact that a leitmotiv of the lyrics of this track is 'just under the skin', that both Jen Ledger and Korey Cooper from Skillet have now gotten tattoos, with Jen's especially being faith related. (I don't know whether this observation is coincidental or relevant about these young ladies' tattoo choice, anyway.)

Blessings.

questdriven:

Well, exactly.

We're onto doctrine now, rather than listening to music, but anyway...

(Our discussions seem sooner or later to get into the deeper issues of doctrine and Bible truth, don't they?)

Mike and the Mechanics: The Living Years.

Not specifically a Christian song, but with a strong moral message about bereavement.

"I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years"

Having myself been fatherless for over two decades, the song doesn't fail to move me whenever I hear it, even though it's message isn't specifically Christian.
