What are Your Must-Have Apps on Your Phone?

At the request of JohnDB I'm sharing an app I have on my android device that simplifies my mobile life.

AutomateIt is a paid & free app on Google Play. The paid version is a no brainer for me, because I depend on it but these functions are on the free one. John, as I told you, one feature is intended to help if you can't find your phone and it's on silent mode. If you text "unmute" to it, it will turn on the sound. There's a setting for that task to make it play your ring tone until you find it or x amount of rings. You can mute it too like that or even shut it down. You can change the words you need to text to trigger.

It does a lot of other things too. I have it put my phone on silent at 10:00pm, and turn on the sound at different times depending on the day of the week. Same thing for dimming the screen. I have it turn my WiFi on when I get home and turn it off when I leave using the GPS, so it doesn't suck battery searching for WiFi when I'm out. Using GPS, I also have it mute and unmute the phone when it arrive at, and when I leave, church.

So many other capabilites. It comes with default tasks that you can disable or delete.

That was for John's benefit, but I thought others might be interested. It's a must have anytime I get a new device.

So my question for others, what are your must have apps on your phones? I have others, but I'll wait to mention them.

A couple to mention...

'Remember Me' - If you are needing/wanting to memorize Bible verses this is the one to get.

'PrayerMate' - Recently came across this one. it's a great way to remind yourself who/what you want to keep in your prayers and helps you to spend a few minutes every day doing so.

'Gift List' - Was great for Christmas. I guess will be helpful in another year again.

'MySword' - I really like this as a bible reading, highlighting and note taking app. I just wish I could figure out how to get the NIV (1984) version on it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I don't think you'll ever be able to get the 1984 NIV in an official, or even legal, way electronically anymore. Frustrating for me too. My Bible was the 84 version. When they came out with the 2011 version, I didn't like that I couldn't quote my version on line anymore. I finally made the leap to the NKJV. A little of that was out of protest, but it was mostly for functionality.

My only must-have is Ebay, as it alerts me when I've sold something. Other nice apps I like are Tapatalk (I use it to access mental health support group forums), and Amazon Music because it helps me de-stress.

I use NKJV as well (hardcopy). Actually, I can't get that on MySword either though. Perhaps there is a roundabout way but not via the standard setup. But, I can get the UKJV (updated kjv).

Have you tried youversion? It is a bible app that also has reading plans and a host of other things you can use.

Yes, I use YouVersion as well. Unfortunately, can't get the NIV1984 version there either.

Yes, I'm sure it is good. With me though I completed the discipleship international (aka equip to serve) program memorizing all those verses in NIV84. With all that memory under my belt I would like to be able to continue to use the same version.

Iron sharpens iron, brother. I do agree it is good to stick with what you know, but reading through another version of the bible helps unpack some things you may not have noticed previously. Paradigm shifts, even when it comes to the way things are phrased, can open up better understanding.

I thought I was a smart phone junky! Your device must be constantly updating apps! On previous devices that I rooted I would wipe my phone often and restore apps only as I wanted to use them. I found it prevented me from hoarding unused ones.

You, sir are a hoarder! Uninstall! Uninstall!

Actually ... I'm not a hoarder. I like to test Android apps ..... I have tested well over 2,000 Android apps. At one time I had over 1,100 apps on my Note 3. Many apps I have are for Reference, just like a Reference Library. Many of the apps on my devices are actually Systm apps that I did not instal. I think over 300 aps are System apps. Over 100 apps are for my VR.

The S8 Plus is a beast and can handle all of these apps and even many more .....

I do all Updates manually. My S8 Plus has 64GB Internal Storage, so memory is not even an issue. However, I do move some apps to the 256GB Micro-SD Card, which saves me around 2-3GB of space. I keep all my Images, Videos and Music on the Micro-SD Card, so my Internal Memory is lean.

My S8 Plus still runs fast and smooth, with only minimal glitches.
