This is why I made my point. A common phrase in Churches is "five-fold ministry," referring to Ephesians 4:11 that spells out Apostles, (1) Prophets, (2) evangelists, (3) pastors, (4) and teachers. (5)
They then say pastor/teacher, which would mean a FOUR-fold ministry, not five.
Pastors have the chief duty of being sure that "everything is done decently and in order." I think a lot of the problems we've all seen and heard about could've been avoided if the whole Church were more willing to use the FIVE-fold ministry, the way our Savior told us He wanted to build His Church. Bad idea in a sermon? The teacher has a proof-reader and overseer, to filter that out. The flock gets fed. It's a good safety net, and a perfectly good Pastor (or anyone else teaching) might inadvertantly say something not quite right that could be problematic.
All that to say that pastor and teacher are separate offices. In a small Church the same person might actually need to serve both roles much of the time. It's better for everyone involved to delegate at least some teaching to someone else ASAP.
Another thing a Pastor needs is a prayer covering from their congratulation!
