Growth What do you fear?

the keep point you missed is that the word for fear isn't to be afraid as in we say it but to respect in reverence . yes it does have that to it our view of god shouldn't be that we are so afraid of him and view him as a cop waiting for us to break to the law and jail us. but more as a FATHER whom we please and want to do so because we love him.
Jesus loves us.When we face Him we will see a love that we have never known. Some people have the idea that He is some kind of a strick disciplinarian shaking a stick at us.It is not like that at all.Yes,the Bible says to fear the Lord but that is more out of respect.

This thread is awesome. It hit a nerve with me because, before I repented, I was a nervous wreck. I mean, I was hooked on Klonopin at 19.

Anyway, perfect love casteth out all fear. I remind myself of that all the time. Christ's love for me (and other Christians) and my growing love for Him have transformed me. I don't need Mother's Little Helpers, lol...I can face life now, thanks to Jesus.

CS Lewis said something like (get ready for a paraphrase...) "Christianity is a fighting religion." He's right! Our fight against evil, against the flesh, against the dark, and against fear is only made possible by Christ Jesus. I've found the fight against fear to be particularly difficult.

Nice thread!

What is it that you fear? We are all human and we fail in our walk with God and we fail to trust Him like we should. I know this from experience. But in your daily walk with the Lord make it your priority to walk with God and not in fear.
True,

Some interesting post in here. Since I first saw this thread I've tried to think about what I fear. My answer? Everything, when I am not close to God, and nothing when I am.

Psalm 27:1-3
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When the wicked advance against me
to devour me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.

You mean that their are some churches that handle snakes? Why?
There is a scripture that says that saved people will handle snakes and not get hurt. Sorry I don't have the scripture and I need to get to church so I'm don't have time to look it up. There are churches that take that quite literally. They bring out a box of rattlesnakes during the service and give them to the congregation. If the people don't get bit or don't die from the bit they are true Christians, just like Paul was on the island of Malta when he was bit by the snake and didn't die. This is really tempting God. To not be hurt by snakes when you are doing God's work and to actually take one and play with it are two different things. Not me, no way, no how. If they pull out a snake during a church service, I'm out of there. I might even make a new door on the way out.

Thank you for the post brother. It stirred my heart this morning.

Fear of any kind gives Satan access to our lives. It is a demonic spirit, and we must refuse it with all our might. So what do we do when we fear? We immediately consider God’s love for us and what His Word has to say about the situation. When we know God loves us, we believe His promises. Perfect love casts out all fear.

  1. Completely eliminate fear from your life (2 Timothy 1:6, 7).
  2. God is not the author of fear; it is a spirit that comes from Satan.
    1. God has given us the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.
      1. Our thinking remains sound when it lines up with His Word.
      2. Satan can do nothing to us unless we give him access through fear.
  3. Fear, if not dealt with, can rearrange and change things in our lives, just like faith.
    1. In addition, fear in one area of life, can spread to another.
      1. Refuse to tolerate any form of fear.
      2. Other forms of fear include: phobias, worry, doubt, insecurity, etc.
      3. Satan will always try to inflict fear upon us.
      4. When fear knocks on the door of your heart, let faith answer.
  4. Where there is no love, fear can freely operate.
    1. The root issue is always love.
    2. The love of God is unconditional.
    3. God poured supernatural, agape love in our hearts when we became born again (Romans 5:5).
    4. True power is found in the love of God (1 John 4:7-21).
      1. God is love; God and love can be used interchangeably.
      2. The Bible is the Word of love.
      3. When we stir up the gift of God, we stir up the gift of love (2 Timothy 1:6, 7).
Fear will put a person in the lake of fire!

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

I want to clarify something. if that is to be taken that way, theres plenty of dead Christian soldiers in hell. a man will fear and be afraid when he is in danger its what he does on the outside despite the fear that makes him brave or not. how does this relate to the post? simple when threatened with death we will be scared, god will have to take over.

God has given us a spirit of a sound mind, not one of timidity....

Maybe the Rev. verse just means that those whose lives are dominated by fear, not love of The Lord, won't make the cut? I dunno...
Why is the church so timid these days? We seem like we don't want to offend anyone. Jesus was loving but He was also offensive. I believe the money changers He ran out of the Temple with a whip would agree with me.

when faced with death, several times in my life, i was not at all afraid. others likewise, believers, have been and others will be executed for their faith, and not only are they not afraid, they do not even resist the evil. (going to look up ref)

( Revelation 12 )

The burning question in the minds of John's readers must have been, If all these terrible things are going to happen in the world, what should be our response? The answer of this text--and of the whole book of Revelation--is that the response of Christians must be one of nonresistance and nonretaliation: first, because armed resistance will be futile in any case and second (and more importantly), because God and the Lamb have already guaranteed them victory. Those who "overcome" do so not with the sword, but with "the blood of the Lamb" and "the word of their testimony" (see 12:11). For the present, John is saying, until the beast's forty-two montes are up (v. 5), those destined for imprisonment will go to prison and those destined for death will be killed. The sole responsibility of Christians is to be faithful and to wait out the storm. God and the Lamb will intervene in due time.
