By the time I'd found out, it wouldn't matter
Yes, but how would you feel if you reached the age of, say, 92 and then magically found out?
Then I would think that I lived the best life I could, the reasons would be
irrelevant
Yes, but how would you feel if you reached the age of, say, 92 and then magically found out?
Although, only Jesus himself could convince me he doesn't exist. ;)
1 Corinthians 15:14-20
King James Version
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
Forgive the slightly controversial title to this post. Just suppose, for a moment, that Christianity were not true - that only in this life we had belief and a hope, and that there was no afterlife. How would you feel?
Well, exactly. If we find it so 'easy' to be Christians, are we not missing the point somewhere? Isn't there such a thing as self-denial and costly service? I have a lot to learn, but I greatly envy people who find it all such a breeze, and for whom it doesn't seem to really cost anything.
There's no downside in having the hope that life isn't pointless.
You're talking about the untested Christian who has only been saved a short time and is still in the 'honeymoon', or 'infantile' phase of their relationship with Christ. Growing up into Christ is hard. Anyone who says it is not just hasn't started growing up yet....I greatly envy people who find it all such a breeze, and for whom it doesn't seem to really cost anything.
Paul said much the same thing. If Christianity were not true we are of faith without hope, God exists, we remain in our sins, and we are of all men most miserable.
