What if Ishmael had not been born?

So many folks when they discuss Ishmael associate him with the Arabs, Arabia, & Mecca. I always wonder why because in Genesis 21 we find:" 20And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer. 21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran: and his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt."

Then in Numbers 13 we get descriptive of the geographic location:"1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Send thou men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a ruler among them. 3 And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran:

We find they went south:17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:

This appears to put them north of Canaan in the wilderness of Paran. Mostly likely Syria/Iraq.

This makes me wonder if Ishmael's descendents became the Assyrians. Because we know God preserved Ishmael for a purpose & promised that Ishmael would become a great kingdom (singular). The Assyrians was the Kingdom that conquered & displaced the Kingdom of Israel in 721 B.C., losing them to history. Making it an ironic, "turn about is fair play" thing.

Tonka Tim I will start a new thread on Ishmael in the theology forum and hopefully this will help others understand the ties with Ishmael and the Muslim brotherhood.
