What is your favorite book of the bible?

1 John. In my eyes it sums up the core of what it means to be a Christian.

Matthew. Such a direct and personal depiction of Jesus, a Messiah who above all emphasized ethical and charitable behavior in the Law. Ironically, it deals mostly with His ministry to the Jews, but seems to me to be most universal in it's message.

Ecclesiastes is my favorite OT book, because it so realistically and unflinchingly depicts man and his relationship with God.

Do I have to pick just one?It would probably be John.A great book for a new believer to read.

There's certainly something very simple, deep and different about the language of John's Gospel (and his Epistles and Revelation, of course).

Blessings.

Ruth - it shows the beauty of simplistic faith.

I like the Book of Ruth as well. It a tender story of faith and compassion. It's a book about doing the right thing in the eyes of God.

I read a book years ago, can't even remember the author now. It was written by a non-religious Jew who wanted to learn a little more about his heritage, so he systematically worked through each of the Hebrew writings, commenting on each. He wrote that Ruth was his favorite book because there wasn't any smiting in it. He was not entirely off the mark.

Probably either John (especially starting at chapter 14) or 1 John. Though Philippians and Colossians and Ephesians are not far behind...and Romans too..... ;)

Today I'll say Job because it brings me down from my high horse when needed starting about 38-40 for example..

Job 40:1 Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

3 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

6 Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

7 Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

ROMANS
Rom 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

IF John 3:16 is the Gospel in a verse, Romans 8 is the mountain top of the Bible!

Hi brother, and I do like the thought. Easy to say at times, but that came to Paul as the result and revelation of much experience of walking with God.

Blessings in Christ Jesus. :wave2

Old thread but looks like it is still open:
So...my favorite in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) is Ruth , because of the 'journey, the hope, the challenge, the harvest' and because from the line of Boaz and Ruth Christ was born.
Greek Scriptures (New Testament) Epistle of James . It says how we should live as followers of Jesus.
