Just curious what some may or may not believe! Does Jesus have a physical living body in heaven?

Acts 1:11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been takenfrom you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

I believe he does have a physical body right now in heaven. The only difference between his body and ours is that his body has already been resurrected into an unfallen world, but we his people are still waiting for resurrected bodies into an unfallen world. Remember when Jesus visited his disciples after he died and showed them his wounds.

I found this scripture to be very interesting Matthew 27: 51-53 NIV
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split 52 and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and[e] went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

I believe that Matthew is “giving expression to his conviction that Jesus is Lord over both the living and the deadâ€. For example, the dead were never raised from the grave at that specific time. He's just giving us a picture to paint in our minds...as in a metaphorical resurrection.

Matthew is telling us that he witness this with his eyes. This is why God has recorded this in the bible. There are many saints (not all) that have already received their glorified bodies.

51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 1 Corinthians 15: 51-52 NIV

Did Enoch and Elijah receive glorified bodies?
Did Moses receive his glorified body?

Saw it with his eyes?? Where does it say that? Is it safe to say that God gave Matthew prophecy like he did Isaiah. 1 Corinthians scripture is speaking about the second coming of Christ. Is Matthew not speaking about the second coming of Christ through prophecy.

Please read the first page of Matthew in the King James Bible. It will state "The Gospel According To MATTHEW"...so yes Matthew did witness this.
As for some saints receiving their glorified bodies may be debatable topic. However the Holy Spirit has revealed this to me.

(Jesus) 12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.” John 16: 12-15 NIV

What does Matthew 1 have to do with him witnessing the dead rising. Matthew 1 is not proof. Exactly, debatable topic! and he will tell you what is yet to come. FUTURE.

Just out of speculation, only assumption does the body need food, air to continue life in heaven. If so is it possible heaven is not to far-off from the world we live in now without sin.

Jesus gave His human body as atonement for the sins of the world. If His body is still alive does it nullify the sacrifice in any way? As they say a life for a life!

What is the significance of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ?

"After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There He was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, 'Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters - one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.) Then a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: 'This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!' Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus. As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead" (Mark 9:2-9).

The account of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ as recorded here in Mark (parallel passages are found in Matthew 17:1-3 and Luke 9:28-36) is a demonstration to three witnesses that Jesus Christ was who He claimed to be. In all three accounts of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ, we are given the names of the three disciples who accompanied Jesus and who stood as human witnesses to the glory that was Christ's. There were also three heavenly witnesses, Moses, Elijah, and the voice of God from heaven. Therefore, the Old Testament law of three witnesses required to attest to any fact (Deuteronomy 19:15) was satisfied both in earth and in heaven.

The word "transfigured" is a very interesting word. The Greek word is "metamorpho" and it means to transform, literally or figuratively to metamorphose, or to change. The word is a verb that means to change into another form. It also means to change the outside to match the inside. The prefix "meta" means to change and the "morphe" means form. In the case of the transfiguration of Jesus Christ it means to match the outside with the reality of the inside. To change the outward so that it matches the inward reality. Jesus' divine nature was "veiled" (Hebrews 10:20) in human form and the transfiguration was a glimpse of that glory. Therefore, the transfiguration of Jesus Christ displayed the Shekinah glory of God incarnate in the Son. The voice of God attesting to the truth of Jesus' Sonship was the second time God's voice was heard. The first time was at Jesus' baptism into His public ministry by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:7; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22).

Therefore, the transfiguration of Jesus Christ was a unique display of His divine character and a glimpse of the glory, which Jesus had before He came to earth in human form. This truth is emphasized for us in a passage in the Apostle Paul's letter to Phillippi. "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form (morphe) of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form (morphe) of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:5-11).

The Son of God came to earth in the form of a man to be the true servant of God and to gift mankind with the greatest gift ever given, eternal life. The transfiguration of Jesus Christ was a visible sign in the presence of reliable witnesses of the reality of the power of God and the glory, which is Christ Jesus.

There are numerous depictions of the Body of Christ post resurrection, many of them not the same. So I can not equate His Body to one specific Body. Could make numerous interesting observations that always fascinate me to contemplate. In general where we see 'The Body' of Jesus it is often used to convey 'allegorical' matters, such as here:

Revelation 5:6
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain -

or here for another:

Revelation 1:
13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Even on earth post resurrection Jesus hid by altering His Bodily appearance to the disciples on the road to Emmaus for example.

Or appeared as Bright Light and a voice to Saul on the road to Damascus.

Really no way to pin the matters down to anything other than the numerous ways conveyed, and those are not always 'literal' but often figurative or as they say, AN IMAGE.

God does speak through HIS IMAGE and still speaks in that, His Language, His Image. Could launch off in interesting ways from here.

But, as to Gods Body, Jesus, living on the planet Kolob?

prolly not.

I can see what you’re getting at, however the transfiguration of Christ did not resemble the same body lifted up in Acts

Matthew 17:2 “His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the lightâ€

Acts 1:11â€This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

In other words when He comes back in the future will He appear as He did in the transfiguration or of that in Acts. “In the same wayâ€

Just to bring this up once more if the physical human body of Christ is still alive doesn’t it impinge on the purpose of atonement? A life for a life! With that said I do believe when Jesus appeared on earth it was the same body he left with.

I believe he does have a physical body right now in heaven. The only difference between his body and ours is that his body has already been resurrected into an unfallen world, but we his people are still waiting for resurrected bodies into an unfallen world. Remember when Jesus visited his disciples after he died and showed them his wounds.

a kabbalist convert to Christ would agree. that is close what jews believe about the heavens. that there is a heavenly earth and natural earth. the later will be destroyed by the other never was tainted.

I lean towards this. that Christ returned to his former creation as a spirit, he left the flesh.interesting thought. but I will need to talk StoveBolts. he and I will enjoy this idea. Jesus went to sheol and in jewish thought the soul is a clothing and if a rabbi is righteous enough he can draw souls out of sheol. therefore it may be that the flesh we heard about was merely a clothe to do the needed. it makes sense given the hyperstatic union.

I believe in the idea of the eternal perfected creation after revalation 22. a physical body whereby no sin ever affected what was meant to be for men.

@jasoncran A better way to think of it is, some may say that Jesus ascended as a spirit, which is true, but he was also in bodily form, inside his resurrected body. For example, the son on earth never stopped being the son. Scripture tells us that Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God. You would need a bodily form to sit. Blessings.

:nod

uhm that is a metaphor.how can jesus be limited to a body and sit and yet also be on the earth inside you?

jews have idioms. the father YHWH said heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool. so that means he is that big(rather small then compared to the known universe)?its called anthropic terms for a good reason. were you in a literally mirry clay when he reached down and picked you up?

im not looking for a literal footstool on the earth. jesus reigns like a king and grace functions much as a king would allow you enter into his presence and you can pettetion him. by writing the bible like that the ancients could then get the idea of How GOD works.

Thank you for this post, it forms a very beautiful and inspiring picture.

What kind of body do you feel Christ had before He was born of woman?

Urk, are you suggesting that this was not a 'real' event? I have noticed that when many run into scriptures that contradict their understanding, they just throw a label of "metaphor" on it and ignore its clear truth. We should not come to Gods Word looking to change it by what we understand, but looking to the Word to change us and our understanding. The Word of God is greater than any mans understanding, and when we come to the place where we think we can ignore the scriptures with words like "metaphor" we have come to a place where the Holy Spirit is hindered in teaching us.

Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Doesn't seem to physical to me.
