I'll agree, there is a shopping cart full of false prophets today, most of them believed and followed even though, as Kathi has allude to, they are simple to be found out. I'll use the, apparently, most popular of today's false prophets as an example of what I speak of.
I, seem to, recall it was for 1998 that Benny Hinn informed the World that God would rain Brimstone and Hell Fire on every Homosexual in the world, ridding the world of their curse. I recalled Mr. Hinn, publicly stating that God revealed this to him. that not only was a false prophecy, it was an outright lie and was and is in direct contradiction to the Word of God.
God loves every one of us sinners and being a homosexual will, certainly, condemn one to Eternity in Hell but then so will the little white lie we have all told once upon a time. If we repent of the lie, God forgives us and if the Homosexual repents, He will forgive them and purify and move them into Heaven... if! If is the largest little word in the world and in this case it applies to both the liar and the homosexual. If both regret their sins, confess their sins and work never to do that sin ever again, (repent) they will be in Heaven for Eternity and it is the perfect Will of God that none should perish but that all should repent and be saved.
As Kathi said, if a proclaimed prophecy does not align, perfectly, with scripture, it is a lie... false.

I could recommend a pretty good book about these things, but to be perfectly honest with you, I really don't sense that you truly care all that much about it. I don't mean to hurt your feelings, but I think that, to you, this is just another question you came up with to throw out there.

I believe there are still prophets today...and there are true prophecies. However the presence of false prophets makes it hard to take all prophecies (whether true or false) seriously by people who have week discerning spirit, when they keep getting wrong results

I agree with you. Prophets today are buried with the liars of today. This issue is very much like the location of the ark of the covenant, I keep finding people that are writing books on where they found the Ark. I have a friend that Baptized me, Richard Clark and he was on the field in Israel when the Jewish Fundamentalists were making the Arabs so mad because they were digging under the dome of the rock, searching for the Holy of Holies. Richard kept close attention and when it was announced that the wall of the room would be breached Richard was there, that night.
Richard has never written about it nor does he give lectures on the matter but he witnessed the Jews carry the Ark on it's carry poles away from the dig to be stored until the third Temple is built. There have been very few that ave ever believed my telling and that is acceptable. Just like the false prophets and their lies to generate funds, so are the tales of discovering the Ark. In truth, I believe Richard and I count all the profit takers to be members of the same scoundrels that compose the False Prophets. They are just to numerous to count.

All these false prophets should be arrested and prosecuted. I'm very serious. Most of them have rendered people useless and destroyed their tomorrow.
A family friend was told by one of them (Im not trying to call him a false prophet) that God told him this guy will become a future international soccer star. That was about 9yrs ago or so.
Being a soccer star...one begins from childhood. There was and is no sign of soccer in him at all. Glad that he didnt pay attention to this but went ahead to go to school. Soon he'd be a graduate and get good job somewhere.
Another woman was told she would be pregnant several years ago. She is still without any.
The other man looked upon a woman who suffered fibroid and told her: that baby in your womb shall...
the woman was shocked because she was only sick and had a swollen stomack as a result of her disease/fibroid.
Etc etc etc.
Clearly speaking, I'm not against prophecy. There are still true prophets today

Yes there are but as I said, the world is full of liars. In the world today there are many false whatever you want to name and in the Army, in the sixties, we called them wanna-bees. I seem to recall that about a half million men and women served in the Vietnam Conflict but today there are over three million proclaiming to be Vets of that filthy war.
And if I want a letter of Ordination they are a dime a dozen today. Recently I saw a site where, for *25.00 they will mail my legal certificate of ordination to me, giving me the right to preach anything I wish to. The world is, just, full of heretics today.

Don't believe everything you hear a prophet speaks, but try the spirits that speak through them. I had a prophet years ago tell me my tent polls were to close together, but never understood what he was telling me.

Which Covenant are you under: The old covenant or the new? The old Covenant leads to wrath, the new covenant leads to Grace. Yet what do your prophets prophesy of but the judgement and wrath of God. But what is revealed about the spirit of prophecy in the scripture?
Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not:I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The spirit of prophesy is your testimony of Jesus. Not about wrath and judgement; that was an old covenant prophet. Where is it it written in the prophets of old that the Kingdom of Heaven should be judged; or where did the prophets declare the destruction of New Jerusalem?
1 Thes 5:9-10 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
Those who were under the old covenant, a covenant with death, were appointed unto wrath; But those under the new covenant were appointed to salvation by Grace. So if someone prophesies of wrath and judgement; who is the false prophet?

God can all use us in this area and lots of us operate on a prophets level for everyday things. Word's of Wisdom and Knowledge are part of the "REAL" Prophets ministry.
God Gave gave gifts to men, Prophets, Teachers, Apostles, Pastors, Evangelist. Each has a specific position in the body of Christ. It's not like the OT days where we had Prophets, then Kings. The Body of Christ is fit together and works together for the good of others.
A Prophets Job is to be used by God to edify the Body. Often times they get deep revelation of things, used in Healing and are a help to others.
A Prophet is not the one directing the body of a church, that would be the Pastor's Job and God does things decent and in order. So No Prophet that I have ever heard of but in the OT and Jesus ever had far reaching prophecies that would effect another Pastor's church. (Outside those given to write the Eternal Word) Even Paul stayed within his own groups and stopped the fights among members of who baptized who.
So, this World come to an end, doom and gloom prophets have to much time on their hands and need to find something better to do.
I could write pages about it, but everyone's attention span stops about here.

Did you say words of wisdom and knowlegde are part of it? I'm really surprised.
How about the man that prophesied about rain...but nothing happened? Could it be he relied upon his sense of judgement - sheer speculation?

WoW, thANK YOU for reading the whole post. I figured you would though.
Word of Wisdom and Word of Knowledge are just two of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Prophets tend to operate constantly in the revelation gifts, and edification gifts. It's an anointing that comes on the person as the Spirit wills to operate in that Prophet office.
In the OT, the Holy Spirit came on the prophet to empower them in the same gifts except tongues to do what God wanted.Today, the Holy Spirit stays in us always and God called some Lawyers, policeman, doctors, teachers, and prophets in there somewhere.
Most prophets do not tell future.
I will say that again............. Being called in the office of a Prophet is not being a fortune teller. That is not the Job of the Prophet today.
What made them seem like fortune tellers in the OT, is that God called men to write his Word, and everything God said that became the eternal Word always comes to pass.
Mike telling something that God said would happen today is not the eternal Word. It's the Holy Spirit showing us things to come, or could come if we do as God said do.
Peter said............... (Paraphrased) Though we heard God on High, this is my son whom I am well pleased, saw Moses, saw miracles, Heard God for ourselves, we have a more sure Word of Prophecy.
Hearing God today, does not over ride any scriptures. The Holy Spirit helps us, shows us things to come, and helps us. Anything told to us about future is called a Word of Wisdom. A gift the Holy Spirit operates in all believers, not just a prophet.
But you have been anointed by [you hold a sacred appointment from, you have been given an unction from] the Holy One, and you all know [the Truth] or you know all things.
(1Jn 2:20)
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
(Joh 16:13)
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
(1Co 2:10-12)
So, everything the OT Prophets would normally do for the people back in the day, is now freely available to all of us today. We don't need to find a Prophet to hear God anymore.
Prophecy, is not normally telling a future event. Prophecy is like tongues, but takes a greater step of faith to operate. Prophecy comes from the Holy Spirit, but is the Lord sending the Message in our known language.
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
(Rom 12:5-6)
I can give examples of what how a Prophet would operate today if wanted. The same type of gifts though are everyone's who is in the body of Christ today. The Prophet is just a ministry office of someone who operates those gifts on a normal basis when called to minister.

note that no prophet of Yhvh today(*) has a salary nor a paid position in any 'church' or organization.
so, to arrest and prosecute them(the false) would take quite a lot of resources and meet a lot of religious opposition.
the true prophets and men of Yhvh are the ones being arrested today, that is of importance. the false are having them arrested, prosecuting them every chance they get, persecuting them, and in many countries putting them to death.
(*) as almost always, exceptions don't break the rule, that's why they are called exceptions.

I understand you, sir. Thanks for your reply. I also know that prophecy is not always: And thus saith the Lord, Classik, by this time next year you shall become the president of Europe...and your progeny shalll inherit Africa and Asia. lol.
It can also come in the form of talking about the past and now.
Is everyone a prophet? I believe we can all hear from God when HE speaks - and when we are attentive to HIM.
Also, I believe some peculiar group has it as a gift kinda.
good that you qualified with "when we are attentive to HIM".... over all, most cannot hear HIM>
