Who is the God of this world?

2 Corinthians 4:4 "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

Who do you say it is? Please give scripture to back it.
 
Satan is the god of this world.

He is ruler of this world - John 12:31

He is the prince of the power of the air - Eph 2:2

The world is under the power of the evil one - I John 5:19

First you need to define 'god' and 'world'.

Joh 12:31 "Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

So, no, Satan is not the ruler of this world.

I suggest that in light of the above verse, Jesus is now the ruling King of this world.

If judgment is upon this world, where was the ruler in this verse cast out of ?

What do you mean? It seems pretty clear that "the ruler of this world" being case out means that he is being cast out from ruling the world. I really don't see how it could be taken any other way.

If he has been cast out of this world why would we need the full armour of God after the cross?

Eph 6:12 because we have not the wrestling with blood and flesh, but with the principalities, with the authorities, with the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, with the spiritual things of the evil in the heavenly places;

I knew this would happen. Yes, Jesus is the King of kings...eventually. He has reclaimed authority over Satan as the second Adam, however, not every person on earth has submitted to Jesus yet.

Satan is the god of the "unbelieving" world.

Each person can come out from under Satan's rule through faith in Christ only because He is the only one who has defeated Satan.

Example: Buddha is dead. Buddha never reclaimed authority over Satan. If you put your faith in Buddha, you are still under the god of this age.

I believe it to be Satan. Some believe it is Christ, but why would Christ blind the minds of nonbelievers? Doesn't make much sense.

John 14
30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.


If Christ is the ruler of this world, why would He say the ruler of this world is coming?


John 16
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

I said that it means Satan has "cast out from ruling this world."

You must also answer what Jesus meant in John 12:31.

What do you mean by "defeated Satan"? You claimed that Satan is ruling this world, and in doing so, provided a fraction of a verse which says "the ruler of this world" as support, but ignored the rest where it clearly says the world has come under judgment and the ruler is now being cast out. You correctly identify that ruler as Satan but if he is cast out as ruler, how can he then still be ruler?

If Satan is still ruling this world, then in what actual meaningful way has Jesus defeated Satan?

1Co 15:24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.
1Co 15:25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
1Co 15:26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. (ESV)

This most definitely implies that Jesus is currently reigning, as King of kings, which is in agreement with what Jesus said in John 12:31. Satan was cast out as ruler, and with his death and resurrection, Jesus becomes the one who reigns. That not every person has submitted yet to Jesus is not an indicator of whether or not Jesus is currently reigning.

The Prince of this world as he is referred to in John 12:31 is Israel/Judah. They were judged and cast down to the ground. God no longer resided in their holly of hollies and their man made temples, nor was he any more carted around in some box. When God removed himself from them, then technically they were cast down from heaven because heaven is where God resides.

Consider the following proclamation concerning the announcement of the new covenant in Jeremiah 31.

Jeremiah 31:27
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah
with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

I see the reference to sowing them with the seed of man and the seed of beast pretty much the same as being cast down to the ground.
 
Satan is a liar did he really have the world to offer....

Exo_19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

Joh_8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

I believe that He meant that the ruler of this world as the same one that He refers to John 14:30.
Joh 14:30 I will no more talk much with you, for the ruler of this world doth come, and in me he hath nothing;

and again in John 16:11
Joh 16:11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.

Joh 12:31 now is a judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast forth;

When Jesus is lifted up this is the judgement of the world, all have sinned and need a Savior. The Serpent head is crushed and the doors to the kingdom are opened to all. satan is cast down, he has no authority at all. The kingdom has come and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
he can keep throwing his darts but he has already been judged. The believer in Jesus has the authority over him, in Christ name.
 
Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Which if any of these passages in this thread were spoken before His Crucifixion ? Did His Cross change anything if so what?

I'd have to do some studying to try to see what you are seeing maybe.
It's an interesting reference but I'm not sure it applies here but it may, I don't know.

Ex 19:5-6 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people:for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
 
I think some of these verses mean that Satan has influence in the world, but not authority. Satan no longer has any power over believers because we have been set free.

Edit- Romans 6:18 comes to mind
