Who was responsible for Christ's death?Who killed Jesus?

The Romans crucified Him Matthew 27:27-37
The Jews cried out "Crucify Him,Crucify Him" Luke 23:21
But ultimately God was the one who is responsible for Jesus death for our sins. 2 Corinthians 5:21
One of the most deeply moving revelations in the Scriptures.

We all did. My sin and yours made it necessary for him to make that great sacrifice. We are all equally guilty of his death, no more and no less than those who actually nailed him to the cross. If we had not sinned, the crucifixion would not have been necessary.

Thank you!:thumbsup

Kathi,

No one killed Jesus, whether by murder or execution. Technically, the Roman government did put Him on a cross, which was their form of capital punishment, or execution. But none of that "took His life".

John's account describes it best:
The Holy Bible, King James Version
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance says this about the word for 'gave up'
paradidōmi
1) to give into the hands (of another)
2) to give over into (one’s) power or use
2a) to deliver to one something to keep, use, take care of,manage
2b) to deliver up one to custody, to be judged, condemned, punished, scourged, tormented, put to death
2c) to deliver up treacherously
2c1) by betrayal to cause one to be taken
2c2) to deliver one to be taught, moulded
3) to commit, to commend
4) to deliver verbally
4a) commands, rites
4b) to deliver by narrating, to report
5) to permit allow
5a) when the fruit will allow that is when its ripeness permits
5b) gives itself up, presents itself

It seems obvious that Jesus voluntarily dismissed His own spirit. He did it, just as He promised in John 10.

We know that His mission on earth was completed when He said the words, "it is finished". There was nothing else for Him to do, and so He left earth according to His own volition.

Recall that Pilate was surprised to hear that Jesus was already dead, when Joseph of Arimathea asked him for the body of Jesus. Mk 15:42-47 (v.44). NIV Also recall that the soldiers had to break the legs of the 2 criminals with Jesus in order for them to die quicker, since the Jews didn't want anyone on a cross during passover.

John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
John 10:8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
John 10:12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
John 10:13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
John 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
John 10:15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
John 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
John 10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

No one killed Jesus as he laid his own life down so we might have life through Him. Jesus always told his disciples his time has not come yet, but that his time would be short with them. It was by the hands of man that whipped him, beat him and nailed him to a cross, but it was Jesus that decided when it was finished here on earth as he gave up the Ghost and went to be with the Father. Jesus is just as much alive today as he was when he walked among men here on earth.
