Why can't there be a perfect church

What do I mean by perfect church? I mean a church where everything is done accordingly, in a Godly or biblical 'manner'. We (our church) have our own weak points and the youth and visitors are complaining angrily. Certain things must be changed and be done in accordance with the today's 'world'. Certain cultures should change...............:..............Okay! I attended a different church last sunday. There communion method was strange. Also there band was bad. I was uncomfortable

My neighbor's church. They spend a lot of time in chuch. At times they leave at 9 or 10AM and return home at around 4PM

I'd have a rave at church to worship every once in a while but that's just me :)

There is no such thing as a perfect church... I'm not even sure where we get this unrealistic expectation. However, it does give us an opportunity to hammer out our differences in a biblical manner.

Life is full of drama... it can't be avoided. But that's not the point. The point is how do we deal with the drama... What do we do with it and how do we act? More importantly, how do we feel about it?

Having several brothers growing up, I've had more run in's with my brothers than I ever had with kids at school etc. Why? Because my family was closer to me than friends at school. Church is no different. Actually, it's just like your biologica family... you never really had a say in who your brother or sister is.

Grazer, you make my point in case. You and I are opposites in many, many theologies and ideologies. At one time I used to be as liberal as you... But I don't have a say in who is my brother, but I do have a say in how I treat my brother.

Love you too Stovebolts :)

Problem is, people have allowed cultures into the church. You now have people with varying opinions

You are right, Stove: No such thing as Perfect Church. At least can't there be a near-perfect church, Bolts? We need harmony in church, StoveBolts. (Especially a church where the youth are not condemned;))

Classik,
The first century church was full of cultural differences. Paul wrote Romans at a time when the Jews were being allowed back into Rome. Prior to that, the Jews were blamed for some pretty bad stuff and Nero had them expelled from Rome. Thing is, many of the Jews were Christians and Paul was concerned how the Gentile Christians were going to accept the Jewish Christians. Not only that, but Paul wanted to make sure that the Gentile Christians didn't pit themselves against the Jews because Paul wanted all Jews to come to Christ.

Then there is Corinth... Oh boy, talk about a church with some cultural problems! Wow, we could write a book on their problems that were directly related to culture! Then Ephesus, and who can forget the book of Galatians! Oh, and Titus where Paul quotes one of their own prophets and calls them all liars! Talk about adversity!

I'd be happy in our church if we would just sing a song newer than 1863... geesh. and we wonder why our youth doesn't stick around.
Go figure.

i'd like to comment on this thread but my head is spinning with all the things i could say.

I too suffer from this form of benign positional vertigo in an ideological sense...

In the past I would just spout off whatever came to mind, but as Proverbs 19:10 states: "When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent."

I now must step back before posting and filter my thoughts through the sieve of scripture and prayer in order to reply in a manner that best promotes the edification of the Body Of Christ as a whole rather than advancing my pride, ego and personal agenda, if any...

It's very challenging indeed, especially when attempting to unite the body of Christ in areas of doctrinal division...I tend to understand the extremes in various contentions and tend to find middle ground that does not violate/contradict scripture where we all can meet as one, but posing this "middle ground" can in itself back fire and become a source of divisional contention where I could be placed on the defensive, thus having to defend my position and be defeated in my purpose of unity....Sigh.

...or

Maybe I just think to much, lol...

well Core, if it's any consolation to ya... sometimes ya just have to ask for forgiveness.

Two things I always try to keep in mind, even though I need more work in that area... But two things. I don't want to be a stumbling block to others, but when others are are trying to force their yoke upon me because they view whatever I'm doing or thinking as a sin, I feel like I'm being oppressed by my own brethren. So living a Christian life isn't always easy because it's hard to serve people within that capacity.

thank you core.
it's on my heart, i would like to make this one comment.
the great german theologian dietrich bonhoeffer said after his visit to america in the 1930's, "the american church has become secularized".
therein lies our problem. how much more so today than the 1930's?
my church has gotten out of hand and i don't know what to do about it.
i don't feel any other church in my area is any better.
i've been saved since 1985 and this is as bad as it's ever gotten.
