It was pretty much that the Pharisees were jealous of Christ as He was gaining more popularity then they and wanted Jesus silenced. The high Priest (Pharisees) were looking for a Priestly Messiah as being a king that would sit upon the throne of Israel in the Temple and one who would come with worldly riches. They refused to accept Jesus as Messiah as He came against many of their traditional doctrines as they went as far as telling Him he was from Satan to come and deceive the people. Matthew 12:22-25; 26:1-5.
Six things that angered the Pharisees:
1. The claims that He made
2. The deeds that He did
3. His threat to their religious system
4. His threat to their way of life
5. The people whom He socialized with
6. The lack of respect He had for their religious traditions
