Why do you believe?

Hello everyone, I am a recent christian turned agnostic. (Please don't try to change my view points) but I would like to know why you believe what you believe? I personally let go of Christianity for many reasons, 1. because I am not intrested in following a god that has no business in helping me or trying to make me better, I have prayed, prayed, and prayed some more, but nothing not one speck of help from him. 2. I was happy when I was an unbeliever, and when I because a christian I was sad, depressed, anxiety ridden and ocd ridden all because if christianity, before this I was fine, but these past few months have been the worst of my life and after a year of faith, I am done. I have given up of the god of Christianity. 3. Too many rules, I have been troubled by soany rules in my life that I simply could not live without worrying about of I was sinning and I got sick of it ang gave it up. I still believe there could be a god, but that god is not knowable and not able to understand. I also do not believe in sin or salvation.

Garion, God does not want us to fear Him, but to love and respect Him in all that He is. I asked you a couple of questions in post #74 that you have not responded to. I'm just trying to get to know you and understand where you are coming from in your thinking of things.

Truthfully? I believe because I don't want to go to hell.

If I get into Heaven that's just gravy

Garion,

How do you respond to what Jesus taught?

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven. Only those who do what my Father in heaven wants will enter. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord! Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we drive out demons in your name? Didn’t we do many miracles in your name?’ 23 Then I will tell them clearly, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who do evil!' (Matt 7:21-23 NIRV)

Jesus' diagnostic is, 'I never knew you'. For all of us, we have to answer the penetrating question in the positive: 'Do you know Me?'

You can honestly say that you love someone that let's a child be born just to starve to death? ... I can't but at least I'm honest about it.

I definitely respect Him and His advice because I see the real world practicality of His advice, I really believe that this is all that He asks.

How is it that one can blame God for the bad things in the world when He is the one with the solution to the worlds problems, but yet many reject Him instead of returning to Him. No child should starve to death as it's only the environment their parents have allowed themselves to be in by choices they made in life. Not once did God ever allow those of faith starve as He has always provided for them.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

your time hasn't come yet. that's all.
I took ages to come around. Let God seek you or notice that God is seeking you.
You may be closer than you think

You seem to not be so sure you will be with Jesus when He returns. Why is that? Are you Spiritually born again indwelled with the Holy Spirit?
I have absolute faith in God and His advice BUT in truth NOBODY knows that they are going to Heaven until AFTER they are judged.

I think that it would be presumptuous of me to think otherwise.

There are "christians" that presume that God wants them to be racists, fornicators, greed mongers....I'm not going to end up like them.

I will NOT go to hell by presuming that because I did or believe some ritual I am a shoo in for Heaven.

See: '11 Facts about World Hunger'.

Not one of these states that God loves someone, allows a child to be born, and then allows him/her to starve to death.

ah but you meet a lot of Christians on the net who are absolutely certain they are going. No doubt about it!

For those who have 'absolute faith in God', God provides this assurance:

Whoever belongs to the Son has life. Whoever doesn’t belong to the Son of God doesn’t have life.

I’m writing these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God. I’m writing so you will know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:12-13 NIRV).

Fear in those scriptures mean to respect God in all He has done. Do you really think a loving God wants us to live a Christian life in fear of Him. It's only His enemies that need to fear Him for what He will do to them.

Please provide biblical evidence to support your claims. To this point, they are only your assertions, without biblical reference.

Not to be argumentative but it sounds like you are putting faith in Scripture NOT God.

Do you know that Scripture can be twisted and turned in all directions to fit anyone's point of view?

It has been for thousands of years.

Some christians thought that God wanted them to torture and murder people in His name because they got that from Scripture....do you believe that God wants people tortured and murdered?

That's not in the Bible..... it's something that happens every 10 seconds.... there's more than just the Bible when speaking of God there's also the real world.

Garion,

11 Facts about World Hunger' deals with issues in 'the real world' (your language).

This has developed into a debate topic, which is not allowed in this forum. Why don't you start a couple of other threads in different forums with topics such as?
  • Does God cause the hunger in the world?
  • If God is not the cause of hunger, who or what is?
  • Do we have to rely on the Bible only to obtain information about the cause and treatment of world hunger?

While that may be true, without Scripture how do you know anything about God?

Those are not Christians, but only hypocrites as explained in 2 Timothy 3:1-7 who only have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof: from such turn away.

There are no rituals in order to go to heaven as Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me, John 14:6.

This below is how we know for a surety we will have eternal life with the Father.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (This is a Spiritual rebirth)

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
