Why Does The Concept of Money Exist?

What makes you think that Gold is only valuable for use as money? I have it on good authority that it makes dandy paving bricks too!

...and even here on earth...why is gold valuable? It is actually a very good material in electrical components. It conducts electric very well and wont corrode.
pure gold wont but often what we have isn't pure gold.

The weights and measures in the Bible were because grain and other food commodities had to be weighed for fair trades. Everything almost was about food back then. Even tithing was in food.

Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. Matthew 20:2 NKJV

A denarius was a silver coin.

Shekel or sheqel (Hebrew: שקל, plural שקלים sheqalim or shekels; Akkadian: šiqlu or siqlu) is an ancient Near Eastern unit of weight. It was a currency in ancient Israel...

Again with the silver coin. Honest money.

According to Jewish law, whenever a census of the Jewish people was to be conducted, every person that was counted was required to pay the half-Shekel for his atonement (Exodus 30:11–16)

Again with honest money. Do you think the Lord would have allowed some banker to inflate away His money for atonement? Make it meaningless like bankers have made jury duty pay via inflation?

Alright, I realize that it is still quite awhile until Christmas but I couldn't help myself. After all, a thread isn't really complete until somebody winds up breaking into song. Even if that person just happens to be a snowman in this case. :lol

Central banks can in theory be honest you,ate arguing that in,another thread.

Can't fund safety nets on gold since that limits spending and borrowing .

Before a central bank ,Spain deflated their coinage with copper . kings orders irc .

None of that matters, if God commands an honest dollar.

We have to determine what the Bible says, and do that.

Related ,we couldn't fund wars on gold.we went of the gold standard for every war we fought up to the nam.

We rationed heavily for both ww1,www2.

Again, irrelevant if the Bible commands an honest dollar.

In any case, war doesn't explain inflation during peace time. WWII was a long time ago.

That is a good point but my question was what if everything was free and therefore if it was free,.. we wouldn't even need to trade anything for anything.
I do that all the time with my neighbors. For example, one of my neighbors is building a work shop and I have been helping him for most of the summer until I hurt my back three weeks ago. There never has been any discussion about compensation for helping him and I don't have any plans to start that conversation. It's just neighbors helping neighbors.

Since I hurt my back, he has been very helpful by providing me with rides to my clinic appointments. Again, there have been no discussions about compensation.

The problem comes when people begin to take advantage of others' generosity and pretty soon you have people that seem to be on the receiving end far more than on the giving end and they begin to get an entitlement attitude. We see this in our own social services programs.

70 years ,yes what is a long time ago still shapes my state .there would be No Disney in florida if that didn't happen nor population boom in my,state as many vets liked where they were stationed and moved there.my town is one of them.airports built and parts from,ww2 still used.

My grandpa is a ww2 vet .plenty still live ,Doolittle died in 93. Is that war that long ago ,depends on anwers ,for me ,its not .

I have a certificate signed by President Woodrow Wilson. Given to one of my relatives for his service in WWI. This is the certificate. Although with a different name on it, of course. The "Columbia Gives To Her Son the Accolade of the New Chivalry of Humanity" one, not the medals on top of the page.

One of my relatives was a WWII vet. Air Force. He didn't make it back home though. I never got to meet him.

I'm glad that your grandfather made it home.
I was thinking of herman , my second cousin who is about the same age as my grandfather who passed before him. he passed at 94 and wrote of his time in war, he was a bomber pilot and was shot down and captured and escaped and often would tell his story to school kids. he was very kind. I didn't have the chance to met him when I went to visit savannah. roy his son , looks like him. he wrote two books one for the family and one for the others.

I used to play chess with an Air Force man who was shot down over Nam. He wasn't captured though. He made it back to friendly lines on foot in about 3 days. Didn't sleep the whole time.

ww1 is very much a backdrop to the creation of my county. many vets of that war moved here and created places I often photo. one being vmis, a sanctuary that has no graves but will make you think of the dead that are honored there and all those that fought, each war from ww1 to present(though there is no statue particularly to them) but a cenotaph of men like levi c law, john mixon, felix popple. these were the early casualites of the war. the man who started the island and committee was a ww1 vet, he is honored with a plaque there.

his house being nearly 100 years old still stands. I need to photo that one. his great grandchildren live in it. it nearly identical to the way it was. the chimney still works. I have a few photos of it.

They built to last back in the day.
I think his house was woodframe stucco. actually I have the county property page up. I may look. I can post their photo as a link. some of the Spanish revivals are block with stucco. I have photos of them and those aren't common as it costs more and took longer to build. one bought the lot and house and waited and stayed in a camp(tents) or at the only lodge until more were built (sleepy eye lodge was the first) and later on others, in the time this was built the bridge was really new and he was already living on the island then. I don't know where his first house was. his doctor prescribed florida and he had friends that lived part time in sears homes without any kitchen and I know that he lived in one and that doesn't stand. where I don't. only one still stands and that is actually nearly next door.

concrete block and stucco.

I agree while not aways able to withstand the storms common to my state the windows and doors and stronger dade pine and Cyprus did last. they build homes to fail and many other things.

one of my favorite accounts was the mail order phone system. two phones and lines with a pole. this was used to build a phone system until it got so big that it was a locally ran one probably by the city I work for and was sold to ma bell. I know that lake worth and Okeechobee also started this way. lake worth had its from the early 1900s to 1983.

Nice house. I like the design.

Florida is relatively warm in the winter. You would probably still need a well insulated sleeping bag to wait in a tent.
