Why Pray When HE Knows Your Need?

Why Pray When HE Knows Your Need? Why fast and cry and pray for days when GOD already knows what you need? (Your views)

I've been taught that prayer is cooperation with God. Mostly, its about bringing us to the point where God can give us wisdom and insight and bless us with...something, maybe not what we initially sought after.

Why? Because God responds to faith not need. Think of Jesus' ministry. There were many people who had needs and did not get touched because they stayed home and didn't come to Jesus. Jesus' home town (Mark 6) was full of needs but they persisted in unbelief and He could not do any mighty work. The Israelites needed a country of their own but they refused to believe God had given it to them and they didn't get it (Numbers 13-14, Psalm 78, Hebrews 3-4,). Many Christians are under the mistaken notion that every thing we see is as it is because that is how God wants it - not so. He has given authority to the Church, we are His Body - the Body is supposed to be carry out the Head's will on the earth. God has left things for us to do; one of which is to pray. Prayer brings us closer to God, we hear, we are led, we are strengthened, but it also causes God to move in accordance to the petitions we offer. God Bless

To chat to God mostly but also to try and find out what he's got planned.

How can I find out what God has planned for me?
How will God let me know?
Will i know, when the time comes?

Did our Lord teach us to pray just for our needs?
Jesus' pattern of prayer includes praise, allegiance, submission, petition, intercession, confession, deliverance and worship.

Praise (Our Father who are in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name)
Allegiance to God's sovereignty (Your Kingdom come)
Submission (Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.)
Petition and intercession (Give us this day our daily bread). That would be our needs and others'.
Confession (and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.)
Deliverance (And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one)
Worship (For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever). Amen

Prayer was also very important in the exhortation given by Paul in his Epistles, e.g, in Philippians 4, 1 Thessalonians 5, etc.

Hi Classik,

One of the purposes of prayer is to get ourselves in alignment with God. When you ask the question, 'Why pray when God knows your needs,' it seems to me to be a selfish attitude. That's just my perception. I'm not accusing anyone of anything. We do have the Lord's prayer as guideline to know what to pray, and I think it teaches us to depend on God. When prayer doesn't seem to be answered, do we trust God? Praying can reveal that we aren't trusting in God, kind of like the man that answered Jesus, 'I believe. Help my unbelief.' Mark 9:24. Even though we may bring all our needs to God in prayer, I think God should be the focus. In other words, our needs should be informed by God's will.

To me praying is about praise and thanks first and foremost. I have a personal prayer of thanks that I give every morning. There's no asking for guidance or anything else in that prayer. If I need advice or to meditate on His word etc. that is a separate prayer later in the day as and if things arise. On Sundays, I refuse to ask for anything even if it is pressing, to the point that I will not say the Lords Prayer on a Sunday(Please give us this day our daily.....forgive us our sins... ) On the seventh day HE rested. The sabbath is His day of rest too so, Sundays for me are about praise only. I've got six days in a week to store the daily bread etc I need or want help with and to ask forgiveness. That's just my take on it.
Blessings to you all

Ask him, differs from person to person, you'll know :)

I don't always get answers. I really like the quote from Angels and Demons though;

"God answers all prayers but sometimes, the answer is no"

Because He said to

Matthew 7:7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

In James 4:2 it says you have not because you ask not. When we ask, we are humbling ourselves and depending on God. And when He answers then we give Him the glory and thanks for it. When we dont ask it's as if we are saying we don't need Him because we can do anything in our own power.

You need to develop a personal relationship with the Lord. You can't just expect him to watch you and take care of you from a distance.
