Why was Jesus Baptized?

And look at how marvelously this played out right before the eyes of those who would NOT submit themselves to the baptism of John... which was a baptism of REPENTANCE for Israel...

Remember when the Pharisees asked the Lord a question and He told them that He would answer if they would answer Him one thing... about the BAPTISM of John, whether it was from GOD or men...

I am not saying it was right or wrong its just I cannot find anything written detailing why he was doing what he did, in otherwords which righteous, holy and good commandment concerning ritual purity he was fullfilling. Based on what I read if it was of God it would have been according to Torah because those commandments were given to Moses by Him. If it was John adding something to that I think those Pharisees or any other devout Jew in the area would have made their displeasure known to John.

As for it being a baptism of repentance on behalf of the nation of Israel. I find that improbable as God has said throughout scripture that Israel needs to repent. And when that happens he will restore Israel and set a king over them to execute judgement and righteouness (king messiah) That hasnt happened yet. This is what I believe is the doctrine Yeshua taught, a call to repentance and the kingdom to come.

IMO it's clear that it was a baptism of repentance for all in Israel..

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

See also Acts 13:24

What I think might be difficult to understand is that there were many Israelites who did repent but not the religious leaders of that nation... They did not submit themselves to that.. So while individual Israelites were justified in their repentance, the nation as a whole has not repented and they're cut off from the root, blinded in part until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.

Though I think water immersion is a outward ritual which serves to show whats in the heart. I agree, that God is very adament who had to repent and has made mention of it time again. IMO regardless what men have written to each other in certain letters or in these days the internet. It is Israel as a nation who must repent and turn to God and His ways.

Speaking of a national day of repentance coming up this September 27th. Called Yom Kippur the Day of Atonement. When true repentance is worked out we will see king messiah come and Israel will be restored!

I couldn't agree more.. we can see that Day approaching...

Ah, here we go with the good old "outward showing of an inward grace" :eeeekkk

Allow me to reiterate my position. I do not know what mikvah commandment Yeshua was observing when he was immersed. The idea that John was doing the immersion seems to go against the traditional way of doing things too.

There is no doubt Gods grace is real. But the point I was wanting to make is that the repentance or 'baptism' of an intermediary was not the prophecy that must be fullfilled before king messiah comes. God said Israel as a nation must repent and turn back to Yehovah and His ways. I want to be part of that, which I think is why I have this new found desire in my heart to learn and abide in His commandments. I am turning back to His ways and forsaking my own.

I will fast and seek His grace to atone for my sins come Yom Kippur.

"And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourns among you... It shall be a sabbath of rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever." (Leviticus 16:29-31)

"Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto YHWH... For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people... It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath." (Leviticus 23:27,29,32)

"And ye shall have on the tenth day of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work therein:" (Numbers 29:7)

But to this day we still have people claiming ti have "seen the light" in their Near Death Experiences.
These experiences took place in the generation of oir parents and grand parents, and in ir own, as you know.

It seems reasonable and sensible to connect this now documented human experience with what Jesus meant when he said, "I am that light."

We must assume that Near Death Experiences occurred in 32AD and in every age.
That old Movie, Striaght Lining, was really a pretty good illustrtaion how someone at some time might well have intentionally set up the edperimental situatiin for holding a person under water until they, too, Saw the light.

It is a tremendous spiritual event according to the people who report it today.
Why not in 32AD?

I've said before some things Jesus is recorded to have said when I compare to Gods word ring so very true. Then there some things like "I am that light" cause me to scratch my head and ask where did he come up with that? Looking in Torah I read Gods instruction is the light which His servant Israel was to follow and be an example for others, a light in a dark world of lawlessness. We should be attracted to it rather than foresake it.

If Jesus taught Torah which I think he did then yes he could I think be a light. Just as other devout men of God I know who fulfill Gods commandment to teach and live by Gods word are.
