Will the rapture be physical or spiritual?

This discussion is for those who believe / see the Bible teaches there will be a rapture. Please, unbelievers and dissenters refrain from bogging this discussion down with your off topic points. As I have time, I will be willing to discuss whether the rapture is a reality or not in another thread. Thank you kindly.

Will the rapture be the sudden disappearance of millions of believers? Or some sort of lofting towards the heavens? Or will it be the sudden vacating of our spirits from our bodies?

If it is spiritual, then our "dead" bodies will be left behind (ahem, Dr. Timothy LaHaye) so in that sense everyone will be left behind... in body.

If it is physical, then will we be changed into our eternal spiritual bodies? If not, then what? And how then could it be said the dead in Christ will rise FIRST... if the raptured are actually translated first?

Your thoughts / opinions... with Bible verses would be preferred...
