Women have an important role to play in the household, I think. Still, the Lord once appointed a woman to judge Israel, a prophetess named Deborah (Judges 4 & 5). It seems odd to me that some people don’t think women are capable of leading.

Actually it is not people, but the Bible:

1 Timothy 2:11-13 (KJV)
11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve.

Now the people problem is some think this give the man a higher level or puts a man above the women in the sight of God, it is far from that.

The above verse 1 Tim 2:11-13 applies to Church matters only, it does not say a woman cannot teach at all not even in the Church, but cannot usurp authority over the man, a women can teach other women, can teach children, can even teach a unlearned or less learned man, but cannot teach when a man that is as authoritative in church matters is present, that would "usurp" his authority.

This also does not make a man a dictator over her, for example the husband is to love and cherish the wife like Jesus loves the Church:

Ephesians 5:23 (KJV)
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Man always seems to take things to extremes, every member of the church has a role. one member of the body depends on all the others, and all members are important, and each member has something to offer the other may not but as a whole we have a body. every role the woman has in the Church is as important as the mans.

It's because many take one verse of scripture out of context without reading the whole of the chapter to take it to mean something totally different then what God already said, plus we have to realize mans doctrine was added to the laws.

Maybe it's because God is portrayed as exclusively masculine.

How about the saying: What a man can do...a woman can....

K: The Bible refers to God as He. This is not to deny the role of someone like Deborah in the Scriptures.

God placed the leadership responsibility on the man. that does not mean the woman has to be silent . they have a role in the Church . can a woman preach? well i have heard a few preach that do a good job... maybe if men would take more of a active role women wouldn't have to do the job. ever notice in lots cases the woman goes to church while the man stays home. i was one of them. silence the women who will teach the young children? has any of you guys tried this say age 4-8 years old? its not easy i tried it. soon found that was not my calling *

Your right God placed the leadership role on the man, but he also said the woman is to remain silent (in church matters 1 Tim 2:11-13), but it does not put the role of the woman (in church matters) less important than that of the man.

Did God get it wrong then?

The Bible was written by men.
if you feel the Bible was written by men. and it was penned by men, but inspired by the Holy Spirit . i would do some deep soul searching toward salvation ..,,,

The contradiction only exists in your mind.

Don't blame God for what is in the Bible.

I believe the bible is the word of God, what he said here has no male bias:

Psalms 12:6-7 (KJV)
6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

If you believe the bible is not the inspired word of God, then again I invite you to meet me in this thread Versions of the Bible...
, your wasting other peoples time in this one

So do I - I just don't accept God wrote it.

Do you have a clue as to what inspiration means?

2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
