However, some Christians could easily look to God's guidance and saw that God ordered death for people that violated the 10 commandments. Now that could get scary.
I don't recall reading that. Where did you get that information? There were penalties for adultery by being stoned but, not death for
all ten commandments. "Thy shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain." No one was ever put to death for that.
Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Clearly this went on for hundreds of years as the Old Testament throughout spoke of idols and groves and other gods. If they have been destroyed for this, we'd have no Old Testament. Even Solomon had different wives of various countries that introduced him to their gods and he did worship some of those himself.
1Kings 11:6-8 (KJV) And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
Actually brother, a man was put to death for taking the LORD's name in vain.
Leviticus 24:10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;
Leviticus 24:11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the LORD, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan
Leviticus 24:12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.
Leviticus 24:13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Leviticus 24:14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
Leviticus 24:15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.
Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
The fact is that this was a law in Israel and for Israel.
The nation of Israel was a Theocracy.
The church is not Israel and each individual government makes it's own laws.
The Church has one commission and it is not stoning people to death. It is to preach the gospel.
Israel was a sovereign nation in the clearest sense.
The reason God will not call upon the Church to stone sinners is because He has already declared that we should not do that.
So if some "Christian" group declares that they have special revelation from God to kill the heathen we already know that they didn't receive this alleged revelation from God.
Luke 9:52 And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
Luke 9:53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.
Luke 9:54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?
Luke 9:55 But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.
Luke 9:56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
Jesus did not say that Elijah was wrong for calling down fire but that this was a different time.
There will come a time when it will not be pretty for non-believers.
When Christ returns He will vindicate Himself and those who wait and watch for Him.
2 Thessalonians 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
2 Thessalonians 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 Thessalonians 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
2 Thessalonians 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
So, rest and take comfort in the fact that Christ will repay...
There is no amount of reasoning that will convince an atheistic fool (psalms 53:1) that God is good and God is just.
God has the position they want.
They are "chips off the old block".
Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isaiah 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
Isaiah 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
Come quickly Lord Jesus!
