The five basic machines which all mechanical things will have one are.

Lever, pulley ,wedge ,screw ,wheel, and axle and inclined plane .

A washing machine has a lever(gears).

Please don't take this the wrong way or anything, but I already learned this in elementary school.

A washing machine isn't quite a robot ,though it has elements of automatically cycle changing ,even before the ever lasting solid state controls .a friend who fixes them says the solid state controls are junk and the analog will outlast the tub on old ones.

Imagine that built like junk .

While I'm,not on this view as you are but yes call centers for online ordering ,warranties suck, banking isn't what it was.and while smart meters have made calling in to ask and report a problem nigh impossible.my,smart meter went down and I knew it was dying before fpl,did as I saw the display fail .by law the user must be able to read his meter.those things can't take Florida's extremes..while slightly, less, accurate the old dials lasted .I have read ones older then me.luck has those solid states replaced in a few years as the displays become unreadable and or less common they will act whacky .seen one over read by 200 kWh in seconds,by the time i called that in it was showing 1000kwh of usage in a few seconds .not possible .
Interesting about smart meters....we have them here too.
As you can see, technology has its good points and its bad points,,,just like everything does.

Personal service is disappearing.
Bankers, which you mentioned, used to know us by name.
I think it's sad to lose personal contact just to have a convenience, and not a very big one unless lines in a bank are very long.

We sure do "pay" for what we get. I wonder if it's worth it.
No line in bank....but no personal service either.

Not everyone who attends college will, actually work that degree .I,make more by not using my trade teachings,I,will make even more by going to,the water plant .

If robots replace all, menial tasks what will, happen as not all will,be hired ,and or any new jobs have the availablity.even the man elon must says this ,a ubi must be and also taxation of robots ,well kinda makes that useless since that will bump up,costs .

Never.of course there's the argument for the adjustment but I,don't see the idea of low skilled workers not needed .one doesn't became an expert doctor after ones intership, ends, and needs an apprentice menship for other skills .given the lunacy of the ubi and taxation argument it will reduce the new hiring because of costs .

In,the future because well ya know govt are limiting speech and no,the u.s isn't exempt from this ,the underground church being illegal will be off the grid .no tech at all based on,my thoughts.China uses social, media smart tech to control, its populous with its social credit rating .

Enjoy, that robot ,it might be your personal assasinator

Btw, I sort of see any machine as a robot since it isn't a human being,.. it's mechanical and isn't that what the definition of a robot is?
Here's how I understand this and why I don't care for robots...

You mentioned that any machine could be a robot....

Look at it this way:
I have to do my laundry.
I buy a washing machine.
It makes life easier for ME....but no one lost their job because I bought a washing machine----

Robots, instead, are very expensive and they will not be built for only one person. They will be taking away a lot of work from humans..those persons will lose their jobs.

A machine is not a robot:
from WIRED MAGAZINE.

“I would say that a robot is a physically embodied artificially intelligent agent that can take actions that have effects on the physical world,” says roboticist Anca Dragan of UC Berkeley. According to that definition, a robot has to make decisions that in turn make it useful―that is, avoiding things like running itself into trees. So your dumb, cheapo RC quadcopter is no more a robot than an RC car. An autonomous drone, however, is a thinking agent that senses and interacts with its world. It’s a robot.

Intelligence, then, is a core component of what makes a robot a robot and not a wind-up toy. Kate Darling, a roboticist at the MIT Media Lab, agrees. “My definition of a robot, given that there is no very good universal definition, would probably be a physical machine that's usually programmable by a computer that can execute tasks autonomously or automatically by itself,” she says. “What a lot of people tend to follow is this sense, think, act paradigm." An RC drone can act, but only because you order it to. It can’t sense its environment or think about its next action. An autonomous drone, however, can do all three. It’s a physical embodiment of an artificial intelligence.

while skeptical that they would ever build any fully ai that is actually self aware that is what they say. if they ever did it, think of the book of dune by Herbert heinline where they enslaved humans and the humans rebelled and won and banned robots.

At least the humans won...
But they DID have to fight the war....
The robots never should have been given intelligence.

Want to know the most depressing movie I've ever seen?
(and I've seen a lot)....

AI (Artificial Intelligence)

A "robot" follows input and depending on the input received has an output.

It's motor controls and ladder logic.

I can program this stuff. It isn't hard to do.

It's all "examine if open" and "examine if closed" contact's expressions.

A machine, by Electric eyes (laser feedback trip) determines whether the box on the conveyor is there and if not goes through the routine of placing one there.

The box moves down the line up to another site where it is stopped, filled, lid closed and sent down the line.
Another site again slows down the box and either tapes or glues the box shut. Then sends the box down the line.

Another machine takes the box and places it on a pallet in a particular way according to a sequence for stacking...when the pallet is full another Gizmo comes by to take the pallet to the wrapping table where stretch film is applied. And when done sends the pallet to the warehouse.

ALL of this is motor controls I have personally done, wired, programmed and installed cables and wire for in one cabinet.
This isn't difficult stuff....and considered robotics. It's the same way cars get made. No difference whatsoever.

You can get a new diagnostic tester that reports to your cell phones. Bluetooth tech.

It reports and records what's going on with your vehicle while driving. Plugs in same place as the other diagnostic tools.

The crankshaft harmonic balancer was going out on my wife's car. Caused all kinds of problems intermittently. The mechanic couldn't find the issue.
Finally found it myself. (It started squeaking and wobbling)

$600 later...no more problems...for a while.
The more complicated a Gizmo becomes the easier it is to break or not work.
We bought a $2k "smart" oven........complete loss

So, like, you don't agree with my post no. 348?

You're explaining an assembly line...
a moving machine,,,I wouldn't consider this a robot..
a car assembly plant comes much closer to it.

Maybe THIS is why you don't fear them.
I DO!!!
