Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Romans 6:16
“16 Know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey (the Believer is either a slave to Christ, for that’s what the word “servant” means, or else a slave to sin, which he will be if he doesn’t keep his Faith in Christ and the Cross); whether of sin unto death (once again allow us to state the fact that if the Believer attempts to live for God by any method other than Faith in the Finished Work of Christ, the Believer will fail, no matter how hard he otherwise tries), or of obedience unto Righteousness? (The Believer is required to obey the Word of the Lord. He cannot do that within his own strength, but only by understanding that he receives all things through what Christ did at the Cross and his continued Faith in that Finished Work, even on a daily basis. Then the Holy Spirit, Who Alone can make us what we ought to be, can accomplish His work within our lives.)” Roman 6:16

More adding to God’s word with your own personal commentary? :readbible

The context is about yielding your body, the members of your physical body to either sin or righteousness.

The wages of sin is death. Eternal death.

Every jot and tittle of the Word of God must point to Calvary! Jesus said the scriptures are about Me!!!!!!!

The wages of sin is death. Eternal death.
But where sin abounded, Grace did much more abound (where sin increased, Grace super-abounded, and then some on top of that): Romans 5:20

JSM

This is why Paul says we preach Christ and Him Crucified. Paul also said I am determine to know nothing among you, save Christ and Him Crucified. He also said, “the message of the Cross is foolish to them whom are perishing, but to us being saved, it is the power of God.” Two subjects - Christ and the Cross, i.e., The Finished Work, i.e., The Blood of Jesus. Why would the Apostle Paul say this? Because this is the ONLY WAY!!!!!!!

Apostle Paul said, "We preach Christ Crucified (1 Cor. 1:23). He also said, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified (1 Cor. 2:2).
There is nothing else for the Christian to preach.
Everything comes back to Jesus and the cross.
If your church does not preach this, ask them why and prepare to leave it.
Our Faith must be in Christ and Him Crucified only.
Indeed.
The book of Revelation also depicts Jesus' death, ressurrection and ascension.

John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!"
And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Acts 1:9 And these things having said — they beholding —He was taken up, and a cloud did receive Him up from their sight; 10 and as they were looking stedfastly to the heaven in His going on, then behold! two Men stood by them in white apparel

Revelation 12:5 And she brought forth a Son, a male, Who is about to be shepherding<4165> all the nations in iron rod/staff. And caught away was her Child unto God and His throne,
Revelation 1:18 and the living One! And I became dead [John 19:30] and behold! I am living into the ages of the ages. And I am having the keys of the Hades and of the Death.
==========================
As my bro Paul so aptly and eloquently mentions in these verses:

Rom 8:34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

1Co 15:
13
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.
14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.
16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.
17 And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!
20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Amen - every jot and tittle of the Word of God must point to Calvary.

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. John 4:23

(means that by the word "seeketh" such are not easily found - this tells us that there is much worship, but with most, it is false. The Story of the Bible is the Story of Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. We must understand that all things pertaining to God are made possible by the Cross, and only by the Cross. If one doesn't understand the Cross of Christ relative, not only to Salvation but, as well, to Sanctification, in other words, how we live for God on a daily basis, such a person cannot truly and actually worship God, at least as they should.)

He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. Howbeit in vain do they worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Mark 7:6-7

“As it regards the Cross of Christ versus the Resurrection, the great Apostle said:

“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the Gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the Cross of Christ should be made of none effect” (I Cor. 1:17). If it is to be noticed, he did not say, “lest the Resurrection of Christ should be made of none effect.”

He also said, “For the preaching (Word) of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness; but unto us which are Saved it is the Power of God” (I Cor. 1:18).” “He did not say, “For the preaching of the Resurrection is to them. . . .”

The great Apostle also said, “But we preach Christ Crucified” (I Cor. 1:23). He did not say, as it regards the Atonement, “We preach Christ Resurrected. . . .”

Of course, Paul preached the Resurrection of Christ, even as Chapter 15 of I Corinthians bears out, but not as the Atonement.

He also stated to the Church at Corinth and to all others as well, “For I determined not to know any thing among you save Jesus Christ, and Him Crucified” (I Cor. 2:2). He did not say, “For I determined not to know any thing among you save Jesus Christ, and Him Resurrected. . . .”

“He also stated, “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ . . .” (Gal. 6:14). He did not say, “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. . . .”

As we have stated, while the Resurrection, and the Ascension, and the Exaltation of Christ were of extreme significance, these three tremendous attributes were the result of the Atonement, i.e., “the Cross,” instead of the cause.

The Christian that places and maintain their Faith exclusively in Christ and His Finished Work at Calvary Cross where the victory was won, i.e., "The Blood of Jesus" - are the true worshippers who are taken up their cross daily and receiving all the benefits of this resurrection life. (Psalm 103:2)

This is the only way that the Holy Spirit will help us and delivers us into the death, burial, Resurrection, and Ascension of Christ seated in Heavenly places so that the life of Christ is manifested through you. Rom. 6:3-5, Rom. 8:2, 2 Cor. 4:11-12, Gal. 2:20-21, Ephesians 2:6

As servants of Righteousness (Romans 6:18), and the only way we can continue to serve that Righteousness is by the Grace of God (Galatians 2:21). Which means the Grace of God is flowing into that Believer because their Faith is placed and maintained exclusively in Christ and Him Crucified. If the Believer Faith is not in Christ and Him Crucified (the death of Christ who loved us and gave Himself for us - Galatians 2:20, 1 John 4:9-10) you are out of the will of God. Which means we have removed ourselves from Him (Galatians 1:6).

Not only does our Salvation come by and through what Jesus did at the Cross, but we “live” by what Jesus did for us at the Cross as well.

Grace only flows when my faith is in the death of Jesus (Christ Crucified). The Holy Spirit will deliver this believer into the death, burial, Resurrection of Christ, and His Ascension. Rom. 8:2, Rom. 6:3-5, 2 Cor. 4:11-12, Gal. 2:21, Ephesians 2:6

It is a sin to trust in anything other than Christ Work at Calvary.

Unless you know that the Cross of Calvary where the victory was won is the answer, you will be entangled in things we should not be without the wisdom of God, and caught up, and join the world with its problems.

Even though a person may agree that the Bible is Truth and right, if your heart isn’t trusting in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified, you aren’t in agreement with God.

Many are not going from Faith to Faith, but from flesh to flesh, while believing that Grace is much more abounding.

God only honors what God does - In you, and through you, providing that your Faith is placed and maintained exclusively in Christ and Him Crucified.

so if a saved person.

1) still practices these:
fornication, theft, lying, greed, etc , he is saved
2) attends church, doesnt tithe, doesnt care for the church but just to listen to the pastor, not all that sit in the pews are saved. i can personally attest to this from the times i had my truck keyed after church, and also testimonies of persons lost and would be drunk the night before and show up for choir and its practice and sing their heart out. i know two of those persons, one passed a few years ago and the other i havent seen in ages and both are saved
3) jlb is arguing that if one is saved, then one must bear the life that shows the fact that you did repent! meaning not only do you not do the above, you do actually care for the things God wants and try to save souls.
the view he has on perfection i may ask as he seems to have the methodist/wesleyan view on sinless perfection.

so if a saved person.

1) still practices these:
Christians do not practice sin...we commit acts of sin because we are Born-again (Rom. 5:20-21, 1 John 3:9). The scripture teaches us that the Holy Spirit will cleans us up - line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little....He will not do it all at once.

Not by might, not by power, but with my (Holy) Spirit will I do these things.

However, if the Believer removes himself from Christ (Gal. 1:6), by not placing and maintaining their Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross, the sin nature will revive (the works of the flesh - Gal. 5:19-21) and begin to practice sin. The Believer is either operating in The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, or The law of sin and death. Romans 8:2

Grace stops!

yet you often argue that works arent even part of the life that we are given. you are the first to react to any post that says faith WITH works is the way, that it is the evidence of the repentance.

Jlb didnt say we could change our hearts only that we must seek to renew our minds, seek to grow, God doesnt make repent, He without getting into the debate of calvinism and arminism , will lead us to repentance but we choose whether to change or not.

even my reformed church's elders teach that one MUST mature in the faith and that if you are saved it will happen. a dead church is one that doesnt reach the lost, that is a concern by my leadership. i have seen old churches here close because they didnt plant seeds to create a new generation.

Faith without works simply means - without Jesus you can do nothing (John 15:5). Everything mans does dies, everything Christ does is blessed, prospers, and lives. Psalm 1:3

a dead church is one that doesnt reach the lost
Without the message of the Cross preached (Christ Crucified- the gospel) there is no power to get saved. Because the POWER IS IN THE CROSS. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. In other words the Holy Spirit will move on people to get saved, healing takes place, needs are met, and so much more. Without Christ Crucified peached, Christian will remain in bondage.

Luke 4:18-19
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Notice what Jesus said: He said this message must be preached! He did not say lay hands on them, but preach!

uh no. if you say you love your wife and dont actually show it, meanign when she old, grey and in need of help you do care you stay with her, you take care of her, you still despite all the storms of marriage that occur, you will have that level of love that is created by staying together that is anything like some movie or book, but legit. that is love but a person who says they love a woman and doesnt care about her by taking care of her in poor health, try to work it out etc isnt in love.

one's relationship with God is very much like this. we grow away from God, we learn the hard way, some times death and cancer and life and Gods allowance of harship, hurt makes us grow and when we do make it throught those trials your maturity is obvious and your depth with God is deeper. this doesnt mean you are more saved, just no longer as shallow.

you love the lost more. you can reach those that are lost and widows, cancer survivors and so forth. works meaning that list of things that you have in galatians that are fruits of the spirit in part.

i am not suggesting we can make our lives more holy we cant. but that we should examine our heart and seek God where we fail to give Him those fruits in our lives and use the bible as the means to examine our life.

a fruit less christian after years in church and and taught properly isnt right. and likely not saved. years of knowing the bible, i have come to the point of where i am off and must change.
