What is the gap theory?
Thank you Mrs. Dorothy. I find that Ruin Restoration (Gap Theory) answers a lot of questions that we do not find in Genesis. For instance, the creation of angelic beings is not dealt with in Genesis. However, angels were on-hand to observe the creation of the Earth (Job 38:7). Also, we don't see Satan until Gen. 3. When was he created. We see in Gen. 1:2 the earth was formless and void, but it was not created that way according Isa. 45:18. Makes me wonder what happened to make the earth "formless and void?" I think it came about because of the angelic rebellion and war (Isa. 14:17; Jer. 4:23-26).

It goes by different names, Ruin Restoration, Ruin Recreation, etc. The Gap Theory-even though I believe it not to be a theory-is the most commonly used. It deals with the belief, that during the creation account mentioned in Gen. 1:1, that time lapsed between the creation of the heavens and the earth. So, Gen. 1:1 could be viewed as "In the beginning, God created the heavens..."and all it's host. "And" then, after a period of time, "the earth."

I had to read this twice. God inspired the Hebrew writers to make Him (Not Himself) to them. Only God make himSELF known.

The literal 7 consecutive days is not confirmed in scripture. It’s just believed. The idea that expanses of time happened between his speaking makes sense.
Thank you for your response. No, I do not believe Scripture to be a scientific record. However, science has, on numerous occasions, proven the Bible to be correct. Yes, God revealed Himself through Moses (the human author of the first five books of the Bible). As Mrs. Dorothy pointed out, only God could make Himself known to His creation. I'm not sure if you are understanding Ruin Recreation correctly are not, but if you read-if you haven't already-my response in this thread, I go into more detail as to why I believe in Ruin Recreation.

Day yome in the Hebrew means a period of time. It can be anything from a few hours to eternity. We are in the seventh day now and it is an exceedingly long time so you can imagine how long the other days were.
It was more likely continuous, trees for example take a long time to grow and fruit and support other life, which in their turn provide food for other insects and animals, but first there had to be water and a days rain wouldn't fill the oceans.
Yes, Genesis is most certainly inspired as is the rest of the Bible, and what is so marvelous is that science proves it, providing we accept that a day is a period of time even before there was any light by which we measure time.
Scientists use the word era, and there are six distinct era. It went dark on day four, and this corresponds to when the dinosaurs and other life died. I think it is wonderful that science and scripture agree.
There were other people before Adam the Israelite. That is when Jewish history begins. World history goes back much further.
