the concept of a soul isn't a greek idea of spirit with a body. but rather the correct idea the jews have and the church did teach. the idea that the person has ruach and also a physical body.

Oh really?? Jesus told his disciples that he was going away but that one day he would return so that where he is they may be also. Question for you: Why would Jesus have to come back and get them if they are going to be with him in heaven when they die?

The inheritance is the land promised to Abraham, it is spoken of a s being in heaven, but, that doesn't mean we'll go there. We are coheirs with Christ and Christ is in heaven.

At the end of the age those in heaven will return, with Jesus, to be reunited with their glorified bodies to dwell on earth:

"14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.

17 ...we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord." (1 Thessalonians 4:14,17 NASB)

I agree that we'll dwell on the earth, however, I don't agree that we go to heaven. There's nothing in Scripture that says that, it's simply inferred. David said, where can I go from your presence.

KJV Psalm 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. (Psa 139:8 KJV)

One doesn't have to be in heaven to be in the presence of the Lord.

I would submit that John is using the word soul metaphorically. An actual living soul in the Scriptures is tied to the flesh. Additionally, John is seeing heaven and earth simultaneously.

Well it describes how a Christian "hath the witness in himself" I believe most can understand how that pertains to "why one would believe" they are secure and have a confidence of heaven.

I was utterly amazed to learn churches divide over whether the kingdom is on earth, or if it is in heaven. Utterly amazed.

I was attending a church and learned that several members had come over to this church because they disagreed on this issue in their other church. Honestly, that tells me a lot about them.

I found this out the hard way when I made a passing reference to this subject in something I said in a Bible study. Just another of several reasons I won't touch formal ministry with a ten foot pole. Believers can be so vicious over the least meaningful things in the faith...while they utterly ignore what really does matter in the faith. Truthfully, lately it just makes me want to die and go to be with Jesus...in heaven, lol. The church is in such a pathetic mess these days.

Here is a fun fact: You changed what Jesus said. Here, let me post exactly what Jesus said " And I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." John 14:3 ESV. Now Jesus said he would come back...this is in reference to the 2nd coming as it is mentioned in other places in the New Testament. Has he come back yet? No...unless you are a Preterists.lol and i don't think you are Jethro. Now why would you say he would send his angels? Ahh i know exactly why...you are refering to the Olivet Discourse where Jesus does say that he will send his angels to gather his elect from all over the world. Nothing about when we die there Jethro. This is once again a reference to the 2nd Coming. Paul said "For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep." 1 Thess. 4:15 As we can see here Jethro those who have "fallen asleep" i.e. died are not in heaven but are awaiting as we the 2nd Coming of the Lord. But hey if it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to believe that when we die we straight to the Kingdom of Heaven then by all means continue to do so.

One of the most twisted verses in the bible. 2 Corinthians 5:8 "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." No where does Paul say that when one dies they go staight to the Heaven. He simply said he would RATHER be dead and with Jesus than alive....well what Christian wouldn't?? To use this verse to some how develope a doctrine of going to heaven at death in the consideration of the other teachings of Paul that clearly state that we sleep does not stand in the face of logic and proper hermaneutics.

Paul is commanding the Philippians in Philippians 1:27 and 3:20 and
all Church Age believers to whom it is applicable to conduct themselves as citizens of heaven
while here on earth. He is commanding the Philippians and all Church Age believers to function
or conduct themselves under all the privileges and responsibilities that their heavenly citizenship
confers.

Ephesians 1:3 states that the Church
Age believer has been blessed “with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places in Christ.”
The doctrine of current positional truth which is a result of the Baptism of the Spirit states that
the Church Age believer is currently seated with Christ “in the heavenly places in Christ
Jesus” (Eph. 2:6). God the Holy Spirit through the Baptism of the Spirit places every Church
Age believer in union with Christ for a specific purpose and reason as stated in Ephesians 2:7,
“in order that in the ages to come He (God the Father) might show the surpassing riches of
His grace in graciousness towards us (Church Age believers) in Christ Jesus.” God is
manifesting His infinite wisdom and grace which is the expression and reflection of His perfect

this verse does not clearly state that we" sleep" either. In fact regardless of what one believes,"heaven or sleep" it most definitely does not infer "sleep"

we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the(home) body and to be at home with the Lord.

From the ekdnmew home(body) Aorist Active~~to home evdnmew (Face to face with the Lord) Aorist active. From this home to our home is an instant in time. It in NO way infers over a period of time or "sleep"
