Jesus said "no one has seen God," but Moses, Aaron, Jacob and Abraham, among others, saw God

for_his_glory: Exo 24:9-10 does not state that Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders of Israel saw God’s “sovereignty”; it states that they saw God. The later verses make clear that Israel saw God’s “glory”: Exo 24:16 Now the glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud...

Jesus said "no one has seen God," but Moses, Aaron, Jacob and Abraham, among others, saw God

TibiasDad: Where does it state that Moses and Aaron saw a mitigated or veiled appearance of God? It simply states: Exo 24:10 and they saw the God of Israel.

Jesus said "no one has seen God," but Moses, Aaron, Jacob and Abraham, among others, saw God

Jesus said: John 1:18 “No one has seen God at any time.” However, there are many stories in the Old Testament of people seeing God. For example, Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders of Israel saw God: Exo 24:9 Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the...

Does anything in the Bible state that anyone who lived prior to Christ's coming was saved?

Does anything in the Bible state that anyone who lived prior to Christ's coming was saved? If so, where in the Bible does it state this?

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

for_his_glory: I disagree with your interpretation. I find nothing in the verses cited that states that those who died and are in the grave cannot hear God's voice or cannot come to faith or repentance. In Psalms 88:10-12, Heman the Ezrahite asks a series of questions: Psa 88:10 Will You...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

Randy: 1 Peter 4:6 does not necessarily support the view that the Gospel was preached to the dead. It could be read to mean that the Gospel was preached to the living who are now dead. In other words, the Gospel was preached to them, then they died, and now they are dead. Here is how the NIV...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

According to the Joshua Project, there are 2 billion unreached people who never heard the name of Jesus. In countries like Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia, where Bibles are forbidden and Christianity is prohibited, the only God that people know is Allah, and the only Jesus they know is Isa (the...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

They would be punished for their sins, and for failing to receive forgiveness for their sins through faith in Christ. I don't feel it is fair that one person who hears the Gospel and has an opportunity to repent and come to faith can be saved but another person who never hears the Gospel is...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

for_his_glory wrote that "the word of God has always gone forth in every nation from generation to generation so I can not see anyone being without excuse unless they have lived a recluse life all their life." However, she then quotes Romans 10:12-17, which states that people cannot come to...

Why does the Gospel require preaching and hearing if it is known naturally?

Romans 1:18-2:16 states that the Gospel is known naturally and all are without excuse (Rom 1:18-2:16). However, Romans 10:9-15 states that salvation requires preaching, hearing and believing the Gospel (Rom 10:9-15). If the Gospel is known naturally, why does it require preaching and hearing?

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

I am not sure I agree. If they were judged by the law, then all would be condemned, for "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Rom 3:23). However, God "is not willing that any should perish" (2Pe 3:9). Therefore, faith in God has always been offered to mankind as a means to...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

I am not sure I agree with this. Ephesians is talking about those who are ignorant "due to the hardening of their hearts" (Eph 4:18) and give "themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity" (Eph 4:19). Paul is calling out the Church in Ephesus to come apart from the...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

What is the purpose of the Great Commission if anyone can know Jesus in their hearts, regardless of whether the Gospel is known or preached to them? I always understood that Christians were commissioned to spread the Gospel so that unreached people groups could have a chance to know of and...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

I am not sure that a person goes to hell simply because they did not know about Jesus or believe in the resurrection. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6). I am not sure how literal this is intended to be. Abraham never met...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

A person dies without ever hearing of Jesus. He tried to be a good person, but like all people, he was a sinner. He is condemned because he did not have faith in Jesus. Do you think that is fair?

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

for_his_glory cites Rom 10:13-15, which states: Rom 10:13 For "WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE Lord SHALL BE SAVED." Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

I do not believe Adam, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and Job knew Jesus, the man, the Son of God. They had a relationship with God, the Godhead, which Jesus, as a member of the Trinity, is a part of, but they did not knew Jesus personally because He had not yet come.

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

I believe you are referring to the Calvinist doctrine of unconditional election, which is an aspect of predestination. As I understand it, this doctrine holds that all people deserve eternal punishment, but God "elects," or chooses, some people to be saved. I do not know whether unconditional...

Is it fair that only those who heard of and believe in Jesus can be saved?

Link1983 wrote: “Find your Bible and turn to the book of Romans chapter two. It talks about those on earth having heard. And those who have not heard about the Word. (Law)” I do not see the relevance of Romans 2 to my question or to Jaybird’s comment. Romans 2 does not discuss the damnation...
