12 reasons why hell is not eternal couscious torment - Part One

Literally the Scriptures say..
Rom_6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
 
It is funny to see people go to a very literal Book like the book of Romans and insist that when it says "the wages of sin is death" we need to take the word death figuratively to mean existing always in misery and unable to die forever. Then they go to a very Symbolic book like Revelation where it speaks of beings cast into fire and tormented forever and they insist that we must take it all totally literally.
It makes more sense to interpret literal books like the epistles literally and Symbolic passages from apocalyptic books figuratively. It is obvious that that is more sensible.
 
The real topic here is...what do you think happens to a person who is not a believer after they die?Where do they go?Do you believe that they no longer exist or annihilation or do you believe that they suffer everlasting conscience torment in hell?
 
It is also true that satan may not want us to do away with the teaching of hell being eternal conscious torment. It may be that he likes that doctrine because in the minds of many it makes Christianity look ridiculous. Lots of people reject Christianity partly due to us insisting that God is totally loving and then saying that He intends to never stop torturing people. It will help our efforts in evangelism if we say what Jesus said.... some will be beaten with many stripes and some with few. No one gets eternal stripes.

I think Satan wants people to look at the Scriptures like he wants them to.To see that when you die and you are not a believer it is not big deal.A piece of cake.You are just destroyed.That way an unbeliever can keep doing what Satan wants them to and there are no big consequences.
 
to answer your question.... I believe when a person dies if they are an unbeliever they will be judged and will go to hell. There they will be "beaten with many stripes" or with "few" depending on their sins. Then God will "destroy both body and soul in hell" Matthew 10:28
 
Actually when we tell them they will burn forever that sounds so ridiculous that they don't take the scripture seriously. When we tell them something reasonable such as God will punish you as much as your sins deserve they know that is reasonable and so they start to get scared.

I have always believed that there are levels of punishment in hell.Just as there is levels of rewards in heaven.With God's mercy and compassion I don't think the sweet little grandma who is not a believer but has done alot of good for others is going to get the same punishment as Hitler.When a person has broken the law and goes to court before a Judge not everyone gets the same sentence.Now.....that is just speculation on my part.There is no Scripture to support this.

But it is hell.It is all bad.Have you ever burned your finger or had a more serious burn?Have you ever had a family member burned very seriously and was in the hospital for those burns?Do you know the horrible suffering that person goes through?The fact that they have to have very strong pain killers to even change their dressings?Well multiply that times 100 or more.And know that there will be no pain killers and that no you will not die but will be aware of every second of your suffering forever and ever.That does not end.

What scripture is the bases for those thoughts ?

So those in hell have eternal life in hell? if so are the wages of sin death?
 
There are differences in punishment but in Luke where it says some will receive many stripes and some few notice that the difference is not how hard or soft but how many or how few. Eternal torment could be hard eternally or soft eternally... but it couldn't be many or few because many or few are limited in number. Once the correct number has been reached it will have to stop. See what I mean?

No I do not see what you mean and where is your Scripture to back this up?
 
Luke 12:47 …46the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47"And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes, 48but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.
Notice there is a limited number of lashes.... few or many but not infinite.

Literally this reads the devil, the beast and false prophet shell be tormented for ever and ever.

Rev 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

This verse says nothing about fire nor does it have a time frame.
Mat 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
 
Maybe someone already mentioned this, but in Luke 16:16-31 The rich man was in torment (verse 23) He goes on to explain all that was happening to him in torment. Not good. Also, Matthew 25:46 "Then they will go away to (eternal punishment), but the righteous to eternal life." - Jesus
