We weren't on switchboards, but we did have party lines.... THAT was a blast.in the 60's my mom said that most of florida was on the old switchboard telephone type. even Miami, fl. it was pre 911 then. she retired from bell south back in 2004
Yes,they were a blast.Pick up the phone and there would be a bunch of people on it.Some guys would say "Hey what is your name?".My friends and I met a ton of guys like that.We weren't on switchboards, but we did have party lines.... THAT was a blast.
actually you were. my mom was an operator then and said that in those days when you called for the cops you had to dial 0. she then would answer and connect you via a switchboard to the cops. her words not mine. she said that in florida then it had no full numbers the old seven digits for local, just the 5 ie old number 569-3387 would be in that day 9-3387.We weren't on switchboards, but we did have party lines.... I can remember having a television in a couple of years before you.We had one of the few TV's on the block in 54.... A black & white console. We got 3 channels that all went off the air around midnight, and started again around 6 in the morning.
