[__ Science __ ] antioxidants, antioxidant pills

The thing is our metabolism is based on oxidation, and the production of free radicals is a normal product of that process. The ideal antioxidant system keeps the process in control, neither too much nor too little. It's a delicate balance, and I would be worried that excessive dosing of AOs might upset that balance.

Healthy human bodies make anti oxidants to balance chemical reactions, in the amount needed. Healthy bodies do need to eat certain antioxidants that can't be produced internally, but in amounts something close to the RDA. You absolutely need some vitamin C and such to stay healthy, but in moderate amounts.

A reasonably balanced diet is the best policy for people who are healthy. Some people with certain conditions may benefit from extra supplements until they are back to peak health, but research on this is still in its infancy. People may also need extra protein and such when they are healing.

One thing about modern food though is that it may not have the same number of vitamins in it as the naturally produced food that our ancestors ate. Some physicians and dietitians recommend a daily vitamin pill with the RDA in it because of this. Something about modern factory produced food may be leading to obesity and such in the public, but no one is quiet sure what is going on here. Whether it is different amounts of vitamins in factory produced food, or man made additives that are affecting people. Research is ongoing.

The absolute best thing to do is eat a variety of foods especially fresh fruits and vegetables from the produce section or farmers markets.

Processed foods aren't harmful...but they don't have the benefits like fresh fruits and vegetables do.
And don't overdo the fruits...they are full of sugar. Bananas are great for potassium...but the highest in sugars and high on the glycemic index. So a great substitute is green bell peppers or possibly cantalope....instead of Gatorade or some other sports drink.

ive been able to improve my diet since moving here (having a working oven helps tremendously, as one might imagine). im drinking more water...usually fizzy, but not soda or anything with sugar or artificial stuff in it. and yet...

I don't know that my diet, right now, would be sufficient, without supplementation. b-vitamins, loads of C, E, zinc...one thing that appealed to me about Orthomolecular (until I started reading all these downer stories about vitamins) was that its sort of like a massive multi-vitamin, just...with the components taken separately.

i dunno. using B3 (niacinamide, niacin) for anxiety didn't pan out, either. I think that failure is part of what has me rethinking the whole thing. the doses recommended in the original Orthomolecular psych material recommended a -minimum- of 3 grams per day. OK, so I took 3 grams per day. For....years. I ditched it once the anxiety kept hitting and my stomach hurt a lot. blah. to be fair, some people swear by it.

to be fair, psych drugs--the fda approved stuff--aren't 110% effective, either. the antipsychotics are the best thing psychiatry has going, and those can cause rough adverse effects and even then...right off the bat, something like 30% of people with Schizophrenia do.not.respond...not exactly a Miracle Cure, if you ask me.

blah. i did read some good things about l-theanine and taurine, for agitation and anxiety in the context of psych issues. they're both non-toxic.

It's interesting to think about how different countries regulate food ingredients. Have you ever used a pill identification tool to check what is this pill or certain supplements or medications? It can be eye-opening to see what we're putting into our bodies.

Since drugmasters make a huge percentage of vitamins,
and since they want profits over health,
and since they get away with so much already
since they control the congress and the regulators and the fda and
so on
and since over half (best guess estimate) of the niacin
the drugmasters make is ineffective at any dose (it has been neutralized so it cannot work) ,
the best thing to do is pray.
Then pray more.
Then after more praying, try a different brand
and/or get outside the ama testing done to see what is lacking or what is toxic in the body.

hint: if the niacin is non-flsuh , it isn't active (so to speak).

Well, I won't swear, but when I take b-100s (ingredients: five b's at 100 mg each plus a few others) , it works.
Decades ago, I took a b100 morning and evening , casually, and within two months people around me were asking why I was so happy... Turns out that the b vitamins are called the happy pill for a reason. It used to be the cure for pellagra. (and still is, though doctors don't diagnose pellagra now since the 1950's - they diagnose a few different diseases instead and give useless drugs, as is their training to do so).

Processed foods aren't harmful...
Between wwI and wwII disease increased substantially due to the three white poisons (foods given american guineapigs) .
i.e. processed (white) milk, flour and sugar. Add to those msg and processed salt and soy, and that accounts for more disease causes than cigarettes.

now its warnings, as in "too much (xyz) could cause cancer" and "vitamins kill you," etc.
After too many people were being cured daily, the negative press was utilized to stop people from being cured daily by vitamins and anti-oxidents.

Also, drugmakers started making more de-natured supplements - supplements with the active ingredients missing - so people who might try them would find them ineffective. Nice thing is, they still worked up to 60 percent of the time! (that's how often a placebo usually works).

ok. that was easy enough, LOL. so...Orthomolecular, for instance...the massive vitamin dosing I've been doing for the better part of 10 years...

probably not the best idea?
It is better, as you have experientially found, than taking toxic drugs.
The best mega dose companies that were very successful were forced to move outside the usa, where they are continuing to be very successful (redusing illness(es)) ....
but worldwide they are being forced out of business by the reset government(s).
