Should a Christian be a freemason? Freemasonry is a fraternal order and seccret society that is said to have origins in the 18th century. It is believed that they were branched from Rosicrucianism, a religious order in which pagan ideas were guised in a mask of Christianity. The first grand lodge dates back to 1717 AD.
In freemasonry you have the first 3 degrees of the blue lodge, and then you have the York rite and the Scottish rite. While York rite goes through chapter, concil, commandery (ending with Knight's Templar), the Scottish Rite advances numerically from 4th-33rd degree.
They are subject to symbolsism, rituals and secret oaths.
Freemasons argue that it is not a religion by saying that it does not meed definition of religion, offers no teaching of salvation, no creed, confession of faith, no rite of worship, no theology, symbols (as on a church).
A definition of religion is:
Service and worship of a God; Set or system of religious beliefs; belief in a divine/superhuman power to be obeyed and worshipped as creator and ruler of universe; expression of belief in conduct and ritual.
Henry Wilson Coil, an author authoritative to freemasonry, claims in his Masonic Encyclopedia that freemasonry is a religion and even compares a temple to a church being a place of worhship.
Albert Pike (33 Degree), in his book Morals and Dogma, admits that masonic lodges are temples of religions.
In freemasonry the all seeing eye represents that God sees all and will reward people for their good deeds and will gain eternal life in the "Celestial Lodge Above".
The white lambskin of masonry represents purity of life and conduct which is necessary to entering into the Lodge Above.
The compass and sprig of Acacia are symbols of immortality. Roberts says symbolism is the lifeblood of the Craft.
What does the Bible say?
For by grace ye are saved through faith; and not that of yourselves; it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast Ephesians 2:8-9
A creed is defined as a statement of belief, principles, or opinions on any subject.
Lo and behold, every freemasonry must believe in some sort of God, and must believe in immortality of the soul. They mus practice the secret arts of freemasonry, say prayers to deity, and swear oaths of secrecy in God's name.
Coil says "If freemasonry were not a religion, what would have to be done to make it such? Nothing would be necessary, or at least nothing but to add more of the same"...
Freemasonry also teaches the fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man. Meanwhile, Jesus told us we don't become children of God until we believe on Jesus Christ whom died on the cross and rose again for the sins of the world, that whoseover believes on him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
Jesus even told people they were liars, and their father was the devil. Doesn't that contradict masonry?
Theology: (Theos= God) (Legein=to speak)
To the mason the God must remain undefined and unknown. Martin L. Wagner admits the deity conceived of the masons (GAOTU Great Architect of the Universre) is a distant and seprate God; not the same as the true God of Abraham. Yet they teach that their God is the same as the Bible.
Masonry also teaches that the true name of God has been lost. In latter degrees (Royal Arch) reveals the name as "Jahbulon".
Infact this term is a blaspehmous composition of the name of the True God of Christianity (Jehovah [aka Yahweh]. Rastas call him Jah). And it is mixed with the pagan deities Baal (bul) and Osiris (on). Baal is the evil false God that caused Israel to sin by passing their children through the fire. Masonic Ritual and Monitor admit this composition.
Masonry teaches that all Gods are compatable and work in harmony with each other, while Jesus Christ said he was the way, truth, and life and no man could come to the heavenly father but by him.
Albert Pike admitted "If our conceptions of God are those of the ignorant and narrowminded and vindictive Israelite...we feel that it is an affront and an indignity to him, to conceive of him as cruel, shortsighted, capricaious,, and unjust; as a jealous, an angry, and vindictive Being"

Freemasonry also misleads its people. When they enter they are given teachings that will change as the mason advances. Masonry teaches that you are in the dark until you become a freemason. Yet the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the Light, and that you can only be in the light if you are a christian. (John 12:46; 8:12)
They teach that the Bible is just a symbol of the will of God, and you can find different religious texts in Lodges such as the Koran. They teach each book is a "volume of the law".
That's just a little rundown.
The conclusion is that if you say that Masonry is not a religion you are either deceieved or outright lying. It is idolatry and deception. If you are a mason ask God to lead you to truth and ask God for forgiveness, and that if you aren't you shouldn't become one. Jesus Christ is the only way to God, for he is the way the truth and the life.
Look up the film: Secret Societies and Biblical Prophecy by Leonard Ulrich, facts on the Masonic Lodge by Ankerberg and Weldon, Aquarius: Age of Evil, and if you PM me I have plenty of sources if your interested on further reading.
May the grace and peace of the God of Abraham be upon you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Shalom.
