Bible Study Back to Basics

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Romans 6:12
Each of us still have a physical body that contains sin.
I disagree, as the vessel I live in is the temple of God.
I can assure you that God will not reside in a polluted temple.
Besides, it is written..."And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Cor 6:11)
Why wasn't the sanctifying blood of Christ sufficient to get rid of all your sin ?
How can one be sanctified, if there is still sin in them ?
When we are resurrected from the dead we will be sinless.
If one isn't sinless at death, they will be raised to eternal destruction.
Until then, we can confess our sins and be forgiven.
Doesn't that make one sinless ?
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9
If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves.
That is true...if one is still sinning/walking in darkness.
Fortunately though, we can walk in the light, which is God, in whom is no sin !
And we can keep walking in God, until death of the vessel.
Those walking in God can say they have no sin.

I disagree, as the vessel I live in is the temple of God.

Our body is indeed the temple of God, which is why we must give heed to the instructions that the Holy Spirit gives us in the scriptures.

Let’s look at the context surrounding verse 12 and see the instructions that teach us to not allow the sin in our mortal body to manifest its sinful expressions (deeds).

Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:11-14

In these four verses, the word sin is mentioned in each one.

Where is the sin? In your mortal body.

We are not to allow the sin, in our mortal body rule over us to make us it’s slave; to make us OBEY IT in it’s lusts.

WHY? Why are we to not allow the sin IN OUR MORTAL BODY rule over us?

BECAUSE OUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!

  • And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin

Our body is indeed the temple of God, which is why we must give heed to the instructions that the Holy Spirit gives us in the scriptures.
But you are saying the temple of God has sin in it !
Won't you change your mind ?
Let’s look at the context surrounding verse 12 and see the instructions that teach us to not allow the sin in our mortal body to manifest its sinful expressions (deeds).
Why would there be sin in the mortal body of one who has repented of sin ?
And been washed of all past sins by the blood of Christ ?
And has been found worthy of the gift of the Holy Ghost ?
And been reborn as a new creature from God's seed ?
You are starting with a straw man argument.

Where is the sin? In your mortal body.
Not the bodies that are Gods temple.
His children heed the exhortation to not let sin into their bodies.
We are not to allow the sin, in our mortal body rule over us to make us it’s slave; to make us OBEY IT in it’s lusts.
We are not to let sin into our bodies, so it cannot reign there.
WHY? Why are we to not allow the sin IN OUR MORTAL BODY rule over us?
BECAUSE OUR BODY IS THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT!
Your version of the temple of God has sin in it.
Jesus died to take away that sin, and was victorious in doing so.

Whoever taught you that serious heresy will pay the price on the day of judgement.
Don't be a follower of that sort of man.

It is written...“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” (Rom. 6:6-7)
Isn't the old you dead ?

But you are saying the temple of God has sin in it !
Won't you change your mind ?

You mortal body, flesh has sin.

That is scripture.

The sin that scripture is referring to is in your mortal body.

Which is why we are told to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of flesh and spirit.

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 2 Timothy 2:21

Because our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit we are to cleanse ourselves.

Here’s how the process works -

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

1 John 1:9
If you heed the exhortations, there won't be any sin to reign.
Even your 1 John 1:9 scrip' testifies to that.
ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS...except what is in your skin and bones ?

1 John 1:8-9

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
Perfectly apt scripture, when applied to those who walk in darkness...which is sin.
Sinners can't say they have no sin.
Those who walk in God, however, can honestly say they have no sin, as there is no sin in God...who is the light !

1 John 1:8-9
At which point, one can say they have no sin.
It had been cleansed, by the blood of Christ !

From that point on, it is our lifetime duty to remain in God.

Sinners can't say they have no sin.

It perfectly applies to all men.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

If it applied to John and those brothers he wrote to, it applies to you and I.
