Bible Study Back to Basics

Our physical body contains sin, as well as a lustful craving to fulfill its sinful appetites, such as scripture plainly defines as the lust of the flesh —
Please provide the scripture validating that.
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
If one is walking in the Spirit, it is because the flesh has been crucified, (Gal 5:24), destroyed. (Rom 6:6)
Have you ever just read and believed what this verse says, without adding your own words or preconceived ideas to it?
We cannot walk in the flesh and in the Spirit at the same time.
Pick one, and hold to it.
How about verse 17?
Why would our flesh lust against the Spirit?
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. Galatians 5:17
Why is the Spirit contrary to our flesh if it is sinless?
Flesh and Spirit are...frames of mind; not literal skin and bones, or ghost like apparitions.
Physical skin and bones cannot want or desire anything, and have no power to control a person.
Flesh, in this verse, pertains to a worldly oriented mind, and that sort of mind cannot have the things of the Spirit, no matter how much it might want it.
They are out of the reach of a person walking after worldly things.
Spirit, in this verse, pertains to a Godly oriented mind, and that sort of mind cannot have the things of the worldly, no matter how much it attracts him.

BTW, the verse does not say the worldly actually want the things of the Spirit, and it does not say the Spiritual will actually want the things of the worldly.
It is simply a scenario pointing out the impossibility of any crossover.
Cats can't have the things of birds, and birds can't have the things of a cat.
Neither would they want them.
Here is a list of the works or manifestations of the flesh:
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are
adultery,
fornication,
uncleanness,
lewdness,
idolatry,
sorcery,
hatred,
contentions,
jealousies,
outbursts of wrath,
selfish ambitions,
dissensions,
heresies,
envy,
murders,
drunkenness,
revelries,
and the like;
of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21
These things of our flesh are a list of sins.
Those things of THE flesh are sins.
These are a list of things in our flesh that our flesh desires to do
These are a list of things THE fleshly oriented mind desires to do.
But walking in and after the Spirit will make the remembrance of that desire moot.

It is written..."And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts." (Gal 5:24)
I am Christ's.
Aren't you ?

I'm so sorry you have been blinded by the teachings of man and what we have given you about sin being in our mortal body.
You must have meant "not being in my mortal body".
God does want us to be perfect as He is perfect, but also knows while being in this corruptible body we will mess up at times as we are still mortal, but grace does not give us a license to sin.
God doesn't care about the package.
It is the heart that must be "as perfect as our Father which is in heaven is perfect". (Matt 5:48)
My stuffed up sinuses cannot make me commit sin.
My bad back cannot make me commit sin.
The package fades away, but the heart/mind/soul lives forever.
The package isn't the one getting judged on the last day.

As for "still mortal", I must ask if you have never read..."For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
"And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
"Believest thou this? (John 11:26)
Paul is our great example of trying to fight the sin that we do that we do not want to do and this was after his conversion.
Paul's written fight was from his time still in the flesh. (Rom 7:5)
He was no longer "in the flesh" when he wrote of it.

I don't think having sin, without committing a sin, is in the bible.

This is glaringly obvious.

The reason is you have deceived yourself.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

You sir, have deceived yourself.

Please provide the scripture validating that.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Romans 6:12

Name a sin your ankle committed.

You are saying there is sin in God, the light.
Some people walk in the Lord, (the light), in whom is no sin.

Those who lie when saying they have no sin, are walking in sin !
Until they confess, and are washed by the blood of Christ, they will continue to walk in darkness.
You sir, have deceived yourself.
Our opinions differ.
This was posted in another thread..."Only those who obey Jesus Christ will receive eternal salvation."
Is that poster deceived too ?

If you don't allow sin into your body, it cannot reign there.
Those who are dead to sin will easily obey Paul's exhortation. (Rom 6:2)
Those who have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts, will easily obey that exhortation. (Gal 5:24)

Again, the scriptures teach us to not allow the sin in our mortal body to rule over us; to make us obey its lustful craving.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Romans 6:12

Jesus wants us to rule over the sin in our mortal body, by the power of the Spirit.

Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 8:12-13

  • but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body

It’s by the Spirit we put to death the deeds of our body.

The reason we have to learn to put to death, crucify, the deeds of our body is it contains sin.

  • do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

Until we learn to do this, and walk as Jesus walked, we can confess our sins and be forgiven.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. 1 John 2:2

If you don't allow sin into your body, it cannot reign there.

We all inherited sin from Adam.

  • just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. Romans 5:12

Don't allow sin into your mortal body, and it will never reign.
It is written..."What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Cor 16:19-20)

Your insistence that there is sin in God's body probably doesn't go over very well on His throne.
Jesus wants us to rule over the sin in our mortal body, by the power of the Spirit.

It’s by the Spirit we put to death the deeds of our body.
So do so !
The reason we have to learn to put to death, crucify, the deeds of our body is it contains sin.
It isn't our body anymore.
It is God's temple !
  • do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

God hearth not sinners. (John 9:31)
Repentance from sin, (turn from sin), comes before anything else.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9
Thank God we can, in fact, say "we have no sin" !
Isn't a pity so many say that is a false doctrine ?

We all inherited sin from Adam.

  • just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin
That ended at Ezek 18:20..."The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son:"

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. Romans 5:12
Thank God we had rebirth, to nullify that old, bad news.
BTW...please remind me of the sin Jesus committed ?
Or Enoch ?
Or Elijah ?
Or John the Baptist ?

You just go ahead and claim you never sin and we will see where that goes in the end. You have a good day.

I will say this for this thread I started as it was to be all about basic salvation helping to bring one to Christ in the simplicity of His word. All this back and forth about sin and sinless perfection making it all sound like we have to be totally perfect (sinless perfection) will drive many away from God as they feel they are not worthy of His grace.

Can we please bring this back to the basics of salvation like we are talking to someone who has not accepted Jesus yet, but may be questioning what God's salvation is all about, can we do this?

That ended at Ezek 18:20..."The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son:"

So you believe Paul was mistaken?

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men

You just go ahead and claim you never sin and we will see where that goes in the end. You have a good day.
"Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:" (Col 1:28)

So you believe Paul was mistaken?
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men
Not at all.
Adam introduced death to the world with his sin.
That doesn't pass his sin on to his children.

Well the scripture I quoted says…

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— Romans 5:12

  • and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men

Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. Romans 5:18

  • Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men

This is why the Messiah had to be born of a virgin, because the seed of man can only reproduce death; can only spread the sin and death from Adam.

Why did you add the word 'sin' ?
Man's seed doesn't beget sin.
It begets (eventual) death !
