Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines a bigot as "a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices" and "one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance." It would help if you had some examples. I agree with some of your statements, but at the same time I sense a polarization in your words. I've met people that campaing for rights that I want to slap some sense into. I've met those that are so stuck in their own world, that the thought of another point of view is automaticly bad or dissmissed.toddm said:yeah bigotry and intolerance are 2 favorite words to describe Christians. Ironically, those who sling those words around are doing the same thing. Furthermore, accepting truth doesn't make you intolerant (well, I guess technically you're intolerant of falsehood). People see Christians as "intolerant" because of the postmodern and relativistic society we're currently in. The tantrum goes like so: "You don't accept what I believe so you're intolerant!" If you flip that same thing back on them, then YOU'RE the one being rude. We live in a philosophically stupid age.
Well, Christians like anyone can be downright obnoxious and belligerent. I'm personally not a fan of those standing on street corners, screaming at people through megaphones that they're going to hell - those people aren't reaching anyone w/ the Gospel and are actually doing more harm than good. Not sure if that's what you meant, but I thought I'd clarify my thoughts anyway.Lance_Iguana said:It would help if you had some examples. What the heck? I didn't say a single think about homosexuals. I have never made a Gay topic. I have never promoted homosexuality, and I am not doing either here. Look, my gayness isn;'t my entire life. I do post on other topics.Rick W said:This had best not become a gay debate.![]()
I was talking about both sides actually. I've met christians against other Christians, and non Christians against their own. Its quite sad.toddm said:Well, Christians like anyone can be downright obnoxious and belligerent.
