Boy who claimed he went to heaven recants

Doesn't matter what is pushed. Only the Bible is true.
the bible doesn't say much. often what we see from movies and are told is what we think hell is
1) satan is king there
2) levels of torture for different sins
3) akin to the idea of val halla(Germanic word is hell for that)
4) visions of it that no saint had in the bible. doesn't mean that doesn't happen. I just don't base doctrine on that. they often contradict.

while I believe in hades, sheol and gehenna, often what is pushed as such isn't in the bible.
Huh, Gehenna is actually featured in one of the series I watch

I'm curious...what is the understanding of each of these things, and how do they differ from today's churchs' doctrinal understanding of hell?

That is why we read the Bible for ourselves. So we really know what is true.

simple read what is said about gehenna in the book of revalation and compare it to the the words of Jesus. the lake of fire as well. gehenna is from the Hebrew word ginhinnom. its the pit outside of the city of Jerusalem. that was a trash dump and had fires that never ceased from burning. a good metaphor of what the final place of judgement for the people that are lost.

satan is tossed into the lake of fire and so is the lost and also death itself. is death tortured?

"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." 1 Corinthians 15:26 KJV

yes, I know but the lake of fire is considered to the place of torment. its throne into the lake of fire. is it destroyed or tortured? I think its destroyed.

I don't mean to sound rude, but do you own a Strong's Concordance?

If not why not download eSword it's free and choose Strong's Concordance it's a free download too and look up these words in it, it will give you the definition and if you download the free copy of King James version with Strong's numbers you will be able to find every place in the Word they are used, ......that way you will own it, that means you don't have to depend on someone telling you because the Holy Spirit will teach you Himself.

Blessings

Hey can we not start a "Hell thread" in The Lounge please? We know how those turn out most of the time. The Apologetics and Theology Forum would be the right place for it.

nde's often involve one or the other. im not interested in debating the idea of hades, sheol and gehenna, the lake of fire. I was an anti ect type for a few years . I know the arguments.

On second thought, I realize it is definitely part of the topic. I know how the hell debates end up as well and didn't want to see this thread get derailed. Please feel free to discuss it, but remember The Lounge is not supposed to be a debate forum.

This is not directed at anyone, just a friendly reminder.

This modern idea that Hell doesn't exist really makes me uncomfortable. Is it a New Age invention? Even a major church (one with a pope) came out and said that Hell is only a state of the soul in separation from God. I personally know that Hell exists as a physical place, though I can't prove it to anyone else. It's both a state and a place.

Maybe there is continuous soul progression. Maybe there is karma that balances out a person's bad actions. But there is also Hell. There just is; I've seen it. There are lost souls; I've seen them, too. I wasn't lucky enough to meet Jesus or see Heaven, though I resolutely believe in both. Hell I don't have to believe in; I know it exists.
It is really a popular concept now that hell is not real or annihilation.Just another lie from Satan.
