Celebrities, I'm sick of them.

Why are so many people enamored with celebrities and hollyweird?

I guess you could call me anti-celebrity/hollywood.

I'm sick of hearing about all the non-productive, self-destructive, and selfish crap they do.

As Americans, we make completely insane people into celebrities. I don't get it. What am I missing?

I think the underlying reason why you are so sick of them is that there are many more forms of media that we get exposed to, therefore creating more celebrities. It doesn't take much to be a celebrity, and you get plenty of people who let fame get the better of them, and they appear in the news for the wrong reasons :sad

But you're not missing much, not at all! :) It takes every ounce of my strength not to hate some of them. Hate is such a strong word, and I do not know them personally of course, but when you can't help but see/hear/read about them day in day out, it can be a more than a little grating. So I Sympathize! :help
 
I think reality TV has played a big part in this problem.

I really don't understand why you would want to watch someone else living their life.....how is that entertainment????:eeeekkk

I like to watch Walker Texas Ranger re-runs at lunch time, the news at night and Football and Nascar on the weekends........other then that I don't really care if I miss it.

FYI, both Obama and Kim Kardashian came to Australia in the past month. Guess who got more media coverage?
 
Count me in with the disgust. I think reality tv and all the channels are part of the problem. So are all the bloggers and internet sites. Not only are the people bloggers write about celebrities, the bloggers are! The people putting their lives on display in the reality show gain a following! How crazy is it that people follow them? And all the channels on tv. Everyone is finding a niche and making the most trivial things and the people who do them "important".

I am disgusted that a person airs of all their bazaar laundry and becomes a celebrity for it. I'll never get it. The throngs of voyeurs who hang on to their every move make these people believe they have something worth while to contribute to society. Their egos make me want to yak! I couldn't care less about these media hogs from a societal perspective, and I do a pretty good job of not finding out. :gah

Yup.

I too find it really disgusting that the media makes big things out of the tinyest things celebrities do. Argh! But what annoys me more, is celebrities that are celebrities for no reason, for not doing anything.

Like, ok, I find the media beat-ups on Angelina Jole and Brad Pit annoying, but at least they've done something to get the attention in the first place. But what has Kim Kardashian, or Paris Hilton done? :wall
 
celebrities are kind of the punching bag of the tabloid media, they feed on them, for news, they get paid a bunch of money for their pictures, they are an easy target.

Real reporting is actually dangerous. Investigating real criminals and broadcasting it to millions of people can get you killed, that's why nobody does it anymore. So instead, they report on these poor celebrities, who are loved, because they love to entertain. I think their strong desire to entertain is driven by a basic love of people, so it's natural for people to love them back.

Try going out and doing real investigative reporting on criminals, and you will find out, they own the media, oops! Back to watching Kim Kardashian.
 
kardashian is a loose woman and posted a home made porn video and it went viral.

i dont watch much tv. i havent since 2009.
 
I'd say the vast majority of church sermons are basically the same thing as TV is, all censored and edited to avoid any sort of real issues, most of them are sunday school baby talk, for 2 year olds, so as not to offend anyone over the age of 5.

Communism is the biggest, most organized anti-Christ conspiracy the world has ever known, yet you'll never hear a single Christian preacher give a sermon on it, or give their congregation a historical lesson about it, they're more likely to talk about ponies and ice cream.
 
I am with you there. Celebrities are so immoral. Additionally too many of the new TV programs and movies promote immorality and disparage Christians. It isn't called the idiot box for nothing.
 
They sell what the people want to buy. Celebrities are celebrities because the people make them into celebrities. If the people didn't pay any attention they'd no longer be celebrities and the more bizarre they act the more attention they get from the people.
 
When Rome was collapsing, it was "bread and circuses" for the masses. In the US at least, nobody's spreading a whole lot of free bread around, but there are plenty of circuses. I don't like how all this intensified celebrity coverage has suddenly become "news." Celebrities' opinions on everything now warrant coverage in the media. We build them up and tear them down, and watch in sick fascination and they self-destruct.

I don't know of any way to fix the problem except to have people avoid celebrity news coverage and focus on real news that affects real people--economic news, health news, political news, etc.
 
About 50 60 years ago folks had TV antennas on the house tops... Those stuffy ol hard nosed christians dared to call'em devils tails! I wished we had listened...
 
lol, reba, so true. I remember reading The Cross and The Switchblade. Rev. David Wilkerson sold his TV (back in the 50s, I guess a used TV was like a gently used iPad today), so he could have some money to do God's work and also so he wouldn't be so distracted from the Lord's work in and through him.

Personally, giving up TV (and most movies) has really improved my life. I think more. I read more. I struggle more. Something about excessive TV watching seems to have a tranquilizing, mind-numbing effect on a lot of people.

This is true. I don't mean to put it all on the media. As with anything, it's supply & demand. If society didn't demand such garbage, they wouldn't be selling it. As a father of teens, I probably should make myself more aware of these cultural influences, but for some reason I just cannot bring myself to read more than the head line. And then I scowl and move on.
 
There's just so much of it going. You'd have to live in a cave not to be bombarded with it.
If you don't hear about it, someone that did will tell you about it!
 
my pastor teaches us about commies and well i and the man that runs the royal explorers do teach patriotic values.christ first nation second.
 
Hooray!!! A subject that we all agree upon. Is that a first?

So what is the profile of a person interested in 'celebrities'? Is it just people who want to be celebrities themselves? Perhaps us anti-celebrities are just not beautiful or clever or good singers or good at anything much?

Also, for all the " hate" or dislike you all have, you sure know enough about them. To know them, means you are watching them.
Also, why promote something that you all dont like??
Telling people what you dont like can raise peoples' curiousity towards it?? Unless this is the underlying purpose. Only GOD knows.

JESUS exposed peoples' evil doings, but HE didnt go into specifics, because HE knew we were weak and that others' sins could influence us to sin. Thats why it's easier to not have an eye for sin, give a message from the LORD. If it's received stay, and if not, then go.

PROVERBS 22:24-25
24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person,
