Christians & The Lottery

If you gamble by putting money in the stock market and lose it, it at least still serves the purpose of stimulating the economy. Where does the money that people lose from buying a lottery ticket go? I think it is supposed to go towards public education in Texas. Not sure how much actually goes minus the amount that is put back in the lottery system.

That's why I quit playing the market.

The way it is done today is nothing more than gambling...and the house holds all the aces.

It stimulates the economy. So does money people lose playing poker, roulette and other forms of gambling, just like when people lose money on things that aren't called gambling, but are, such as investing in commodities and companies.

Should Christians play the lottery ? Is there something Biblical that is against it. I don't Iplay it or gamble, even when I take my mom to the casino's like today, I just sit around and when she is finished I take her and my aunt home. But my mother is not Christian she is a Hebrew. But I see many, many Christians play the lottery. Is it a sin to play the lottery ? What I always hear is, that we are not supposed to be blessed that way.
I bought my mega-millions tickets yesterday. Sure hope I win!
So no, I dont' think playnig the lottory or even gambling is a sin if it's kept in moderation. Can either become a sin? Yeah.. I most certainly think so.

Whenever I meet a gambler, they always say they win.
I never met a gambler that ever lost.
My step father is the only person I know who was consistently ahead of the game. He played the dogs, and there wasn't much he didn't know about each and every dog. But he decided his bets before he ever went to the track, bought the tickets he intended to,,. and almost never put another buck back in on impulse.

I made just at 40K in the market last year.
What percent return does that represent?

It's impossible to know what big business is up to and how they are running their companies. That's why it's gambling. I wonder which business sector's corruption will crash the economy this time.

Overall, I think it was just in the teens. Our financial planner keeps them moving quite a bit. Pretty good man, and the cost is quite low. He was My Dad's advisor, and we just left the inheritance with his firm.

I love going to the horse track and betting.
And Jai Alai too.
Tampa Bay Downs and the Fronton.
It's entertainment.
Some people go to a restaurant, others go to movies.
I gamble.
Of course, I haven't done either of these things in over 20 years, but if the opportunity arose, I would do it again.
In my heart and mind, I still gamble.
those who aren't cubanos and Floridians wont know what jai alai is.

I see gambling as a high-risk investment which, other than the risk involved, is no different from any other investment. If I buy a lottery ticket, and that ticket wins, then I make money. If it doesn't win, I lose money. If I play poker and I win, then I make money. If I lose, then I lose money. If I buy a share in a company, and that company does well, then I win. If the company does badly or even goes bankrupt, then I lose money. In both cases, I have no control over the outcome. Why are two of those considered sins, but the third isn't? They seem pretty much the same to me.

health and all forms of insurance are in essence ran with that logic. they pick the types that are the least risk to give the lowest rate to. especially automotive insurance and homeowner insurance and life. so that is also gambling for them to sell YOU insurance.

If you buy life insurance, you are basically betting that you will die, while the insurance company is betting you won't die. If you die, you win, if you don't die, they win.
