Christians? Using self-defense and Guns?

LTD have you ever been in a life threatening position ... say with bad guys kicking in the door?

A locked door is a form of self defense ... keeping ones money in a bank is a form of protecting property...

And when you are raped and murdered they can move on the the next family member or neighbour ...

Calling the law is a form of self defense...

Matthew 5:38-47 just doesn't sound like what the world teaches. Jesus is talking about body and things and love of enemies. That is not acceptable in the world.

You want me to say that I will hurt them. Not gonna do it. If they were hell-bent on hurting someone, it will be me. Peacemakers will inherit the kingdom.
Another scenario. You catch wind of a terrorist about to set off a bomb, and you see him about to dial the phone that will set off the bomb and potentially kill thousands. There is only enough time for you to respond and use force to get the cell phone away from him.

Do you do nothing, and thus result in the death of thousands? Or do you tackle the man and remove the phone, and thus save thousands of lives?

Nobody knows what they will do in any situation until they are actually put into it.
I do know that calling on the name of the Lord Jesus would be the first thing I would do.

I would tackle him. If that is self-defense? I don't know genuinely.

I like this Rollo.

Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven, and on earth and under the earth

What if Jesus was in that moment, and that is the very reason why you were there.

God never works outside of us or apart from us, but always in us and through us.

Is it a distraction to tackle? I am not very intimidating, so it might just look really ridiculous but effective.
Let's say in this hypothetical situation that you are physically equipped to tackle and disarm the terrorist, though he continues to reach for the phone after you have knocked it free from his hands.

I just think that this is how our world is programmed to think. I do not think we have to resort to that. Scripture points to another way.

Absolutely right. I once knew of a man who was intent on killing his wife and had gone to a friend's house and took his loaded gun with the intent of using it on his wife. As I walked out on the sidewalk, suddenly I was face to face with him and the loaded gun clearly visible in his waistband. Just like you said, the very first thing i did was call on the Lord. Then I drew my gun.

When I call on Jesus, then I will know what to do.
I do it in every other aspect of my life, including my conversation with you.
Why would a violent situation be any different?

It goes back to my belief that nobody knows what they will do until they are put in that situation.

Holy cow. Where in scripture is this allowed?
LOL! You're right. I forgot to provide the scripture! Sorry, here it is.

"For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience." (Romans 13:3-4, ESV)

If I see someone in need, I don't call upon the Lord to ask him to tell me what to do. He already told me through His Word.

If one understands their convictions and has decided in themselves what they would do in a particular scenario, then I don't see why they wouldn't know what they would do in that situation.

I guess if one has a violent nature controlling them or a self-righteous nature controlling them, then yes, they know what they would do.
