"9 according to the custom of the priestly office, he (Zacharias) was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense." (Luke 1:9 NASB)
That was the custom of the day. Surely your church is not casting lots for who will be a pastor

You mean no revelation came through James?Only 12 that revelation came through.
You mean no revelation came through James?
"He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at onetime, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also." (1 Corinthians 15:5-8 NASB)
Many churches 'vote' on pastors...
In trying to learn who you are Randy ...
I hope you mean the idea of voting a in or out a pastor doesn't offend you.
My words were not meant to offend...
We know that it was not Paul, but was Matthias, who replaced Judas, based on Acts 1:21-26 (ESV) :Jesus chose 12 apostles. Judas betrayed Him. To me Paul is the replacement. Those 12 will sit on thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel. The foundations of the new Jerusalem have their names. That is a special distinction and honor. Only 12 foundations. They are special and set apart. Only 12 slots. No matter how loosely the term apostle might be used used. Barnabas was also appointed for the Lords works as well. I don't see him as a apostle.
We know that it was not Paul, but was Matthias, who replaced Judas, based on Acts 1:21-26 (ESV) :
So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.” 23 And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen 25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
This is not true, Randy. They did consult the Lord. Acts 1:24 states it clearly: 'And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen'.Acts is a truthful accounting of exactly what took place. Without consulting the Lord they nominated 2 and they dictated to the ruler of Gods creation to pick one by casting lots. And were the lot fell was their answer in the Lords choice. A little while latter the Lord appears to Paul and states Paul is His chosen to bring His message to the Gentiles and Israel. The Lord didn't even consult or inform the 11 about Paul. I wonder if there as a message in that silence.

Matthias was chosen by the Lord to replace Judas and it was not Paul.
Has God told you that this is exactly what happened that God DID NOT pick the two and then the one? Do you have inside information that this is the way it was? They picked two THEN asked the Lord to pick one of the TWO and instead of waiting for a reply to their prayer they cast lots. The Lords choice was Paul.

Your initial issue to which I replied was: 'Without consulting the Lord they nominated 2 and they dictated to the ruler of Gods creation to pick one by casting lots'.
They did consult the Lord. God was perfectly capable of denying both of these two nominations as an apostle to replace Judas. He didn't.
They understood another was to take Judas's place from scripture. They selected two. Then they asked the Lord which of the two He wanted and cast lots. Thats what I read.
I did read the Lord Himself appointed Paul. That makes 12.
Randy
Nowhere in Scripture is it stated that the apostle Paul replaced Judas. Nowhere!
The fact remains that Acts 1 confirms that Matthias was the man to replace Judas and not Paul. Your 'self evident' label doesn't work when compared with Scripture.True - I would think its self evident. Paul did write he was set aside at birth and He was NOT appointed by any man or by mans will. The 12 will sit on 12 thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel. I just don't such a seat was the apostles to give.
