Church Of England Allows Female Bishops

1 Peter 3:1; NIV
"Wives, respect and obey your husbands...".
Jesus -Love one another

When Moses came down with the 10 commandments it was "Honor your Father and Mother". Wives honor your husband was not listed.

I know my Lord. He would never tell someone to remain silent for the sole reason of gender. His command to us is to love one another and to treat people like they want to be treated. And by the way with equal schooling and "bibles for all to read" its a different age. (Edited, CF.Net doctrinal statement: "We believe that the Bible is inspired by God in its entirety", ToS 2.1 "We consider Paul's writings to be part of the inspired Word of God. This is a Christian forum and any posting(s) that is intended to purposely distort Paul's writings will not be tolerated." Obadiah.)

But I tell you if Jesus did direct such a command I would not be moved from that position. I don't believe HE did.

There are 12 foundations to the New Jerusalem named after the 12 apostles of the Lord. So who is the Apostle that replaced judas?

Matthias, according to the Acts of the Apostles, was the apostle chosen by the remaining eleven apostles to replace Judas Iscariot following Judas' betrayal of Jesus and suicide.

They threw lots. (smile)

But if you read the truthful accounting of what took place the inspired Apostles (smile) failed to wait for an answer to their prayer. Jesus choose and appointed Paul and didn't even tell the 11. Paul told them.

At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Do to others as you would have them do to you.

So what are you saying?
Disregard 1 Peter 3:1?
Take it out of the Bible?
Give it a new meaning?
Make believe it's not there?

You say you missed this command, so I'm showing it to you.
What are you going to do with it?

Just for the record I believe Paul was the Lords choice in replacing judas. I only point out Acts disagrees with that as the Apostles choose Matthias. If you read the accounting they did pray but failed to wait for an answer from the Lord. Its not that I don't believe the scriptures are inspired in the testimony about the Son. Since Paul himself wrote "I" not the Lord in some cases then that is scripture that supports the Apostles made leadership decisions that weren't specifically directed by Jesus.

How do you wait for an answer when drawing straws?

Who says there was or should be only 12...

Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Well I note that the New Jerusalem has 12 "foundations" and they are named after the 12 apostles of the Lord.

"drawing straws" was the way the Levitical priests did a lot of stuff.

I see very well the 'use' of the number 12 it is all over the place... OT NT ....

For understanding i am asking if you Randy if you think, believe, understand there were no more Apostles after Paul?

I'm lost, how does 1 Peter 3:1 have anything to do with positions of authority in the church?

Randy is correct about the scriptures not saying....
They never say for the wife to honor the husband But do say for the husband to honor the wife.
But that has nothing to do with authority in the church either.

"9 according to the custom of the priestly office, he (Zacharias) was chosen by lot to enter the temple of the Lord and burn incense." (Luke 1:9 NASB)

If you read the accounting they prayed. I noted they didn't wait for an answer.
If you read the account you will see that Paul could not even be considered for the office to be begin with.

21 "Therefore it is necessary that of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us- 22 beginning with the baptism of John until the day that He was taken up from us-one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection." (Acts 1:21-22 NASB)

I have quoted several verses in this thread that tie in with 1 Peter 3;1.
(Edited, ToS 2.4, unnecessary rudeness. Obadiah.)

I've been reading right along. I don't always have something to Say, believe it or not. :)

I just don't see how that verse has anything to do with authority in the church.
What if your husband Wants or even Tells you to accept a position in the church?

We'll I guess since Jesus is the head of the body of Christ it's Jesus's call as to who the 12 will be. As we read Jesus Himself appointed Paul as He also Himself appointed the other 11 apostles.

Only 12 that revelation came through. So in that context only 12. I do not believe there are apostles on earth today. We teach and preach and debate from what is already written.
