If Christ didn't have the ability to sin, he would not have been fully human; and therefore would not have been able to empathize with the sinful nature of man.

Of course, Christ could sin, he was fully human.
Of course Christ didn't sin, he was fully God.

Thank you PHIL for getting this back on track.

Yes, Jesus could have sinned. The mere fact that Satan was tempting Him in the desert was to make Him fall. If Satan could detract Christ from His mission then mankind would not have a Savior.

The Bible says that He knows our infirmities and was tempted as we are. This means that Christ's humanity was there. Humanity implies choices. Temptation implies falling to it or rejecting it. If Christ had the advantage, Satan was wasting His time.

What about the Garden of Gethsemane? You don't think there was temptation to walk away? Why was Christ in such anguish and stated for the Father to 'take this cup from me' if He wasn't tempted?

As was pointed out, Christ relied completely on the Father for His strength.

The question is...was Christ like us?

We have a lifetime of chemical imbalance, poor choices and corrupted minds from these choices that makes us more suseptible to sin and temptation. Christ didn't have these things.

So even though He was tempted as we are, He didn't have the sinful baggage we all carry today due to our sinful choices. He was tempted AS WE ARE (pride, ego, power, materialism) but He was not LIKE us as we are.

But that is another topic...

Really the question should be...Are we like Christ?

As we surrender to the Power of the Holy Spirit we should become more and more like him and all those "chemical imbalances" you talked about go away

Predestination believers have a very faulty view of Gods nature and purpose. It turns God into a Hilter or Stalin.

Judges and DA's who suborn perjury are MUCH more dangerous than people who believe in predestination.

Besides, a certain part of our lives IS predestined. Jeremiah 1:5

Jesus is God and God can not nor will he sin.

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:8-10

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. 1 John 5:18

I believe that Christ being the 'Son' of God would certainly have allow Him the power to sin. If not, then what was the purpose of 'His' death upon the cross? Doesn't seem like over-coming sin would be a very great achievement if sin had no power to corrupt that which over-came it. Any other answer would certainly negate the instances that we have of Christ praying for strength to do what needed to be done. If there were no chance of failure, He wouldn't have needed to pray for strength.

God is unable to sin for there is 'no other' that holds authority over Him. Our sins are against our brothers and against God. God can sin against no one or anything.

Christ on the other hand was flesh and Spirit. Satan would never have tempted Him if it were 'impossible' for Him to sin. Christ was our example and we are to follow in His footsteps. If somehow He were completely immune from the ability to sin then we certainly have a God that has been unfair to us.

We too are told that we, that accept Christ and follow the will of the Father, are the 'Sons or God' also. Regardless of how people deny this literal fact, that's what we have been offered and only have to accept it to bring it into our reality.

We continually try to change ourselves instead of allowing God to do it. For this reason, we continually stray away from the Father. You cannot NOT sin by trying. The elimination of sin is accomplished through the change of one's spirit. The only way this can be done is through the Spirit of Christ and God's will.

Stop struggling and submit. You will not change over-night. This is one of satan's most successful lies. Many believe that upon acceptance their lives will become 'perfect' over-night. NO, it is a gradual thing at first that will grow continuously through ones walk. Give those sins to God and let Him take control. Once you admit how weak you really are, your pride is abandoned and God WILL take over.

That's the biggest difference between Christ and us. He abandoned his 'self' to the will of God. We were told that we too could produce miracles through the Spirit if we could just let go of the world and self. Faith my friends is not just a belief that Christ or God exist, it's the belief that they are in control no matter what and that your best interests are their goal. Acceptance of this fact is the faith the we must have.

This is what aided Christ in His walk through this world. He didn't sin because He allowed the Father to lead Him in EVERY STEP. He abandoned His 'self' for the sake of all the people of the world and allowed God to be his guide. There is much power in the knowledge that God is there for you no matter what and Christ KNEW THIS.

He certainly could have sinned, but through His love for us and His Father, he over-came it, and defeated death for those that believe.

Everything that I have read in this thread that says that Jesus Christ had the ability to sin has no scriptural backing; therefore, all posts that have no scriptural backing are pure speculation and opinion. The scriptures that I have posted say that he that is born of God does not sin, and in fact he that is born of God can not sin.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 1 John 3:7-10

God is able to overcome sin but man is not. Jesus was able to overcome sin because he was begotten of God, and he is God.
